Nothing exciting, just another secondary bench day.

Last night, I had to s**t things down early with squats.

My adductors were tight and my TFL was on fire! I left with my head hung low. Flash forward to today and helping with some pre squat warm ups, today was a different story.

I only managed a top double. But way happier with it that yesterdays, terrible single. Only a couple more weeks and we can move back into wraps and have some real fun!

These squat days are getting more and more encouraging. It’s been a while since I’ve had this much weight on my back…comfortably, so I’m a little unfamiliar with it. But, that will come with time.

I’m starting to love training again and I can’t wait to get back into wraps. Each week is a pleasant surprise with how well things feel. I’m gonna ride this wave as hard as a I can.

This last Saturday, I had the privilege of handling this super star line up of athletes.

It’s always nerve racking as a coach to go into a meet. Trusting your athletes hard work will show up on the platform. The programming is pretty easy. The hardest, yet most rewarding part…is coaching. Not just over the long volume block, strength cycle and peak. The hours poured into technical over view and critique. Exercise selection to target weaknesses. But, showing up on meet day, to bring the energy they need to make it throw the longest day of lifting.

Knowing how to motivate each athlete, picking numbers, celebrating with them and picking them back up after failed attempts, to keep their meet running smoothly.

I get caught up in their meet, as if it is my own. Feeling every high and every low. Cracking jokes to keep the mood light, and leaving welts from back slaps.

I’m so lucky, that this is my job and even more lucky, these people trust me with their journey.

We had 13 state records set and broken, another dozen or so PRs and I believe everyone qualified for nationals in Atlanta. Some, I’m just glad made it to the platform…looking at you Will. 👀

I’m so proud of each and every athlete who trusts me. They have limitless potential, I just need to keep leveling myself up, to get there there.

Congratulations to all of you! These days are better than my own meets. And now I have 4 other athletes to prep for November. I’ve always wanted to be this busy, but never thought I would be.

I feel very blessed to do what I do.

Season 2: Ep 3 of PR or ER brings you another squat PR. I took 3 weeks off from low bar squatting to let my elbow stop from blowing up.

So this week, we full sent!

If want to get better at something you suck at...do that thing until you suck slightly less at it. Lockout strength and speed has been a issue for me since the dawn of time. So paused deadlifts it is.

Progress is not always linear. It has its ups and definitely has its downs. But you have learn to enjoy the roller coaster. Roll with the punches and throw a few back every now and then. A PR doesn’t always have to be about the weight on the bar, it can come in many forms...it’s all about perspective. Go out and PR today.

Been doing some yolo lifting lately, just to “enjoy” training. Worked my way up to a 5RM on beltless deficit deadlifts. Hit 563x5 then a bunch of back down work. I remembered how to deadlift AFTER the open.

It’s still so surreal. But this last weekend, 8 years of hard work became real. I got to compete with some of the best powerlifters in the world at the . I walked in with no expectations, but to do the absolute best I could do. I can’t tell you how focused I was all day. I ended up taking 3rd place in the 220 weight class, went 5/9, with a 749.57 squat, 446.44 bench, 688.9 deadlift, totaled 1884.95 (barely missed 705 at lockout for that elusive 1900 total and met some of the kindest, most humble strong people in the world. Not bad for a guy who 8 years ago was told he’d never run again or squat more than his body weight. 🖕🏼the doctor who cared more about his success rate than my own goals. Even though this was a blast, bigger things are to come!

12 days. 12 days to take the platform with athletes I never thought I would ever be on the same level with. 12 days to put years of work into 9 attempts. 12 days to prove that it doesn’t matter where you came from, or who you are, but the heart inside that will take you where ever you want to go. 12 days to prove I belong.
