Original Pennsylvania 1000 Yard Benchrest Club, Inc.

Original Pennsylvania 1000 Yard Benchrest Club, Inc. The Oldest & Largest of it's Kind Since 1967, the PA 1000 Yard Benchrest Club has been holding sanctioned competitions of long range benchrest shooting.

Owing a lot of its history to the nearby municipality of Williamsport Pennsylvania, it has become known as the "Williamsport Club". We are proud to be the birthplace of 1000 yard shooting. Our club holds ten regular sanctioned matches each season, none any closer than two weeks apart. The 1000 Yard World Open is always held here in July of each year, and also several "Fun Shoot" weekends, two befo

re and one after the season. Classes fired are Light Gun on Saturdays and Heavy Gun on Sundays. References to these are made repeatedly throughout the site and definitions of each may be found in the rules section.

Match 2 brought a mix of sunny skies and cool temps. While the conditions appeared just breezy, the winds proved to be sneaky - pushing groups out to the 10-30” range. Many shooters had the opportunity to use the WHOLE target!

With deep sadness, we have learned of the passing of Gordy’s longtime companion, Linda. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gordy and his family during this difficult time. At the family’s request, we are sharing her obituary below.

Linda Perry Anderson passed away at home on May 5th after a lengthy illness.
Linda was an avid reader, a gardener, birdwatcher, and cook; and a long-time member of the Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes.
Growing up in Wilmington, DE, she attended George Gray and Harlan Elementary Schools, followed by P.S. DuPont High School. After graduating from the University of Delaware, she worked for the Delaware Nature Education Center, the PPL Montour Environmental Education Center, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Capt. James A. and Bessie J. Perry, and by her husband, Professor Wayne P. Anderson of Bloomsburg University. She is survived by her long-time companion, Gordon C. Bitler; her son, Michael Dowd of Murfreesboro, TN, his wife Fiona and daughter RΓ³isΓn; and her sister, Paula Perry.
Linda's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Gentiva Hospice and the staff of Nan's Girls for their wonderful care.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Roat-Kriner Funeral Home (1133 Bloom Rd, Danville, PA 17821). In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice, or to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (Philip Merrill Environmental Center, 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403).
