Wait for it…. Read to the end…..
What is there to know about Midnight Rider’s brilliant, crazy, athletic, tough, funny, and very profound clinician Christoph Schork of Global Endurance fame? Well, we horse people care most that his horse loves him so much he can leave her “off leash” in ridecamp. But in addition to truly loving horses, Christoph draws wisdom from a lifetime of wild adventure and athletic accomplishments beyond numbering. He understands competitiveness and bravery but also understands how much help some of us need to handle the fear and anxiety that we have to tackle every day in our endurance endeavors.

I’m posting a link to his website and a biography by Dianne Woodward that helps one understand just how lucky we are to have Christoph achieving another athletic first on our watch: yep, this guy is going to do the first two loops of the Mt Adams hundred mile ride, make his horse comfortable, present his talk on the challenges and magic of riding longer distances—THEN HE IS GOING TO LEAP ON HIS HORSE AND CONTINUE THE HUNDRED!!!

What a guy 🤩

Bobbi Walker makes friends everywhere she goes —this one figured out what we were up to at Mt Adams Horsecamp and decided to volunteer for Midnight Rider!
♥️♥️♥️
With input from Bobbi we’ve replaced miles of road with lots of BEAUTIFUL trail miles. (I forgot to take pictures while hiking this past week darn it.) The wild strawberries are ready for picking—and by this weekend you might get a few handfuls of huckleberries and, just maybe, a few thimbleberries.
♥️♥️♥️
Starlink is tested and ready to go, and even the weather is cooperating—offering just enough moisture to make the ground everywhere soft but not mushy—perfect!

Please, if coming to Mt Adams Midnight Rider from up north, DO NOT take the central route to Mt Adams horsecamp!!! For some reason Google Maps suggests this terrible route with its slow gravel roads and twists and turns. Every year someone gets lost/stuck going this way. There is no cell service and very poor signage. Not a good place for a horse trailer.

Either take I5 south to Oregon’s 84 east, and cross over back into WA at Hood River, and take 14 east briefly before heading north on 141 to Trout Lake and then on to Mt Adams Horsecamp. Follow pie plates/homemade signs to AERC entrance to the meadow.

OR, for a quieter and less trafficked and more beautiful route, take 90 east to 82 south to 97 south to Biggs junction. I personally then go west on 14, the Washington side, before heading north on 141 to Trout Lake. Others prefer to cross over to the Oregon side at Biggs, then go west on the less curvy 84 to Hood River and cross back into Washington. Go west on 14 for a tiny moment before heading north on 141 to Trout Lake and then on to Mt Adams Horsecamp.

Can’t wait to see everyone!
