My goal is to educate and guide new shooters and to help introduce those who are curious about guns in a safe, professional environment. I teach NCDOJ Certified Concealed Carry handgun classes for real world everyday carry. The HDFT Conceled Carry Handgun classes / CCW classes are the most comprehensive available. I train each shooter with a personalized approach for personality, need and budget.I
teach the most current best practices for weapons safety and handling. I have worked with teens up to, most recently, a 76 year old female. We worked together to prepare for her CCW class, which she passed and worked with her after to prepare her for EDC with attention on threat focused defensive shooting. She has challenging arthritis but I found her a weapon she can handle proficiently and reliably. I also helped her learn to use an AR-15/22 with a tactical light, red dot and co-witness irons for her home protection gun. She is very proficient shooting in low light/dark with the tactical light. We also developed a reaction plan so if something happens in the house especially at night when she is asleep, she knows what to do. In day light she is deadly with the red dot or irons up close and at distance. I teach at a local free private range, I like to train students there because it is purposefully rustic. There are many open, modern, slick, visually clean ranges but that is not always the real world. The experience I want to offer is visual scenic but also offers "visual noise" forcing you to focus on your target. While developing my instructional method, I gathered input from shooters and previous students I instructed on this range. Rifle shooters liked the standard open lane for rifles but also very much enjoyed how some targets are between trees or thru groupings of trees. Pistol students enjoyed the high level of safety training, being able to move and shoot, the use of cover, multiple attacker scenarios and many of the other training options I offer. Additionally the range is an enjoyable place to hang out. There have been shooting sessions with small groups then after we cooked out over the fire pit.
