Next weekend’s programming is not to be missed!

🌕 The Full Moon Hike is the day after the Sturgeon Moon, and a 96% partial lunar eclipse will take place overnight August 27–28, casting a deep crimson shadow across much of the lunar surface. Check it out, as it will be a talking point of the hike.

🏕️ And a Mountain Man will make a special guest appearance, sharing stories and insights into the fur trade of the mid-1800s.

Rain brings life-and a splash of yellow to our trails!
With the recent moisture, some plants are taking advantage of the conditions and putting their energy into blooming. It’s a wonderful time to slow down, look closely, and notice the colorful bounty around us.

Hikers on our last Tech Hike used the free Seek app to identify plants and wildlife in real time. Give it a try next time you visit Trinidad Lake State Park, and turn your hike into a nature discovery adventure!

Our Ranger Talk this evening was an informative and fun look at what makes Trinidad Lake State Park such a special place! 🏞️🌲

We learned about the park’s history, what it takes to become a Colorado Park Ranger and the rigorous application process, how the park came to be through flood control and dam construction, and the importance of park safety.

We were especially lucky to promote our Junior Ranger program and have a Jr. Ranger join us for the evening! ⭐ He also shared information about our archery range, the 10 miles of trails available for park guests, the progress of our Dark Skies application, and the area’s coal mining heritage.

Of course, no ranger program would be complete without a little hands-on fun! We had the chance to explore skins and skulls, toast marshmallows, and connect with one another over our shared love of Colorado Parks and Wildlife. 🔥🦌

It was a wonderful evening celebrating the many ways Trinidad Lake State Park connects with campers, visitors, and our local community. We’re grateful for our Rangers and all they do to make this park a special place! 💚

Many thanks to Kay Evans for sharing her wisdom and love of qigong "play" with us this summer! We have truly enjoyed having her lead this special series and hope to welcome her back again next year.

Through slow, mindful movements, deep breathing, and focused intention, qigong invites us to cultivate and restore our vital energy. From energizing morning sessions to peaceful evening practices that help us wind down, it has been a wonderful way to connect with ourselves and with nature.

We are so happy to support an activity that is accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels here at the park. Thank you, Kay, for sharing this meaningful practice with our campers and community! 🌿💚
