Training never stops. Therapists sought to instruct me in breathing exercise to help post surgery pain management and recovery - deep breathing into the abdomen. We in Kokikai having practiced one pointed breathing exercise already know that's the ki, to recovery.

Set backs. Maintaining a positive mind is important. I have not been able to fully practice since needing physical therapy (PT). PT can be difficult, and it's easy to be discouraged when progress is slow, and painful. Rather than dwelling on the difficulty and pain, overcome this feeling by reframing the PT, and approach it aggresively as a type of training.

There's an appropriate way to train when you're young and vigorous. There's a proper way to train when you enter the advanced years of your life. There's an appropriate way to train when you're sick, and there's a proper way to train when it seems no workout works.
Even in the face of death at the end of life, there is a form of training, most people get caught between fear of death and their hopes for immortality. Acceptance of death's inevitability as a natural thing at the time, is a form of training for the warrior.
Constant training, always adjusting the goal to the means at hand at your disposal, is the only way to cultivate the true strength that transcends all limitations.

One of the most important reasons for correct training is to remove bad habits, and cultivate good ones. Habits are second nature. In other words, whatever you do is reinforced subconsciously. Thus, in an emergency or under pressure, we are prone to act, without thinking, according to what habits we've accumulated in practice. The issue is, what is good or bad. This goes back again to the goal and objectives of training, with respect to the context of what the training is for - winning a sport competition, self-defense, combatics, personal growth/development, physical fitness. Whatever the goal, our practice needs in some way to provide corrective feedback, that relates to the context. We sometimes assume, or it is represented to us, that our training addresses more than one context. If that is the case it must be understood what the your primary goal is for training; what are it's underlying principles; and if there are conflicting goals in your training, determine whether one is counter productive to the other. If there is, it may cause you to hesitate in a situation that calls for decisiveness, or your reaction may be less than optimally, inappropriate, or ineffective. If upon consideration, you determine there is such a conflict, you may need to adjust your traing to compensate, or adjust your goal.
