We are officially ONE WEEK away from our Select Girls Basketball Open Gym! 🏀

If your daughter is planning to try out for the Select season, now is the time to get registered! We ask that all girls attending open gym be registered for tryouts, which are coming up in just a few short weeks. This is one of our last opportunities to get all remaining players registered before we hit the court for tryouts.

Open gym is a great opportunity for the girls to get back on the court, get some work in, and get comfortable before tryouts. It is also the perfect time for parents to stop by and ask any questions about the tryout process, teams, uniforms, or the season ahead.

We are excited about the numbers we are seeing and can't wait to get the girls back on the court and get the season rolling!

We are currently looking for White Team Head Coaches for 4th, 5th and 6th Grade.

Our registration numbers are looking very strong, and based on current interest, we anticipate being able to field two teams at each grade level, pending final registration numbers.

Edgewood Girls Basketball is giving our players a chance to get the basketball in their hands before tryouts! 💙🏀

If your daughter is registered for Edgewood Girls Select Basketball tryouts, come join us for a FREE Open Gym! This is a great opportunity to get some shots up, work on skills, get comfortable on the court, and shake off those pre-tryout nerves.

We couldn't be more excited to kick off the 2026–2027 Edgewood Youth Girls Basketball season! As we continue to grow our program, we're making some exciting changes that will create more opportunities for player development, competitive experiences, and long-term success.

Beginning this season, our 3rd–6th grade program will transition to a select team only based model similar to many successful surrounding school districts. Rather than offering separate recreational and select divisions, we will field as many select teams within each grade level as registration numbers and volunteer coaches allow. Our goal is simple: provide every player with the opportunity to develop, compete, and enjoy the game while wearing the Edgewood jersey.

How Team Placement Will Work

Once registration closes, we will determine which grade levels have enough players to form multiple teams. If additional teams are needed, we will conduct a second round of head coach interviews to ensure we have the right leadership in place.

To keep the process as fair and consistent as possible, tryouts will be evaluated by select board members and coaches from other grade levels, rather than the grade's head coaches. Following evaluations, the board and evaluators will work together to build balanced rosters.

Depending on registration numbers and coaching availability, a grade level may have:

Navy Team
White Team
Grey Team (if numbers support a third team)

Team Philosophy

Every Edgewood team will focus on developing players both on and off the court.

Navy Team
Highly competitive environment with a strong emphasis on player growth and development.
Competes in Dayton Metro D3 South.

White Team
Focuses on building basketball knowledge, confidence, and skill development while providing a competitive experience.
Competes in Dayton Metro D4 South when two teams are formed, or D3 West if three teams are needed. If the EYGBL board thinks this team can compete at a high level they will play D3 West.

Grey Team (if applicable)
Emphasizes game experience, skill development, and continued growth. Competes in Dayton Metro D4 South, providing valuable competition against other community programs rather than repeatedly playing the same local teams.

One Program. One Family.

When a grade level has multiple teams, they will practice together at least once each week during both the regular season and postseason. Teams will also come together for organization-wide events such as Youth Night, our End-of-Season Banquet, and other program activities.

Building a positive culture is one of our highest priorities. We want every player, coach, parent, and family member to support one another and celebrate the success of every Edgewood team.

While our teams may play in different gyms on game day, we all represent the same program.

Once a Cougar, Always a Cougar.

Thank you for your continued support and trust as we take this exciting next step. We truly believe these changes will create a stronger program, provide better developmental opportunities, and prepare our athletes for continued success at the middle school and high school levels.
