As a Coach I should be held higher and accountable. Parents also need to understand and trust the process. Great things don’t happen over night.
Parents, as we head into the off-season how would you evaluate your performance this baseball/softball season?
We hold coaches to a high standard
We hold players to a. high standard
But what about you?
Here are 5️⃣ ways you can evaluate your role as a parent in youth sports
🥎⚾️🥎⚾️🥎⚾️
1️⃣ Did I control your emotions?
Be a consistent example of mental stability
Show players how to properly respond when things don’t go our way.
They will be able to get the most out of their skills when they are mentally in control.
2️⃣ Did I support them away from their team?
All players should practice their sport on their own time.
They will always have more time away from their team to get better than they will while with them.
Help them learn to take their development into their own hands.
3️⃣ Was I realistic with my expectations?
We want them to get better but just bc we want them to be ready for a certain level doesn’t always mean they are ready for that level
Just bc that’s where their friends are doesn’t mean it’s the right place for them at that moment
4️⃣ Did I allow excuses & blaming?
The longer they do this the longer they will stunt their own growth.
Teach them the difference between the controllable’s & the un-controllable’s.
Their attitude, effort, energy & focus
5️⃣ Did I think before I spoke?
What are you allowing?
What are you participating in?
What are you instigating?
The tone, the message, the impact.
Know this too, sometimes the best thing we can say is nothing at all.
Silence is okay!

We as parents need to focus on improvement as much as players and coaches do. The areas I can improve are:
- Control your emotions
- Support them away from their team
- Be realistic
- Don’t allow excuses and blaming
- Think twice about you speak
