The Ursinus Budō Taijutsu Club The art focuses on the study of balance manipulation rather than the use of force, strength, or speed to defuse a violent altercation.

This Ursinus Budō Taijutsu Club promotes self-defense awareness for all genders and body types and the in depth study of the Japanese martial art of Bujinkan Budō Taijutsu. We teach skills necessary to handle any sort of attack in a manner which is efficient and requires only proper body movement using principles that originated in Japan over 1,000 years ago. Students should be aware that absolutely no experience in martial arts is necessary to join, and that we welcome students of all fitness and experience levels. Classes are no longer held at Ursinus College. Please contact us if ever you are planning a trip to Japan and wish to participate in training while in the Tokyo area.

We plan on holding training tomorrow night at the normal time, 7pm-9pm, and will let you know if anything changes.

We're excited for a new year of weekly FREE martial arts classes!

If you missed our introduction class, or even the first few weeks of classes, don't fret, come by any time and try it out for yourself! No experience necessary! Bring a friend!

Classes are no commitment, you can come by and leave whenever your schedule allows. BUT - if you train hard enough and stick around, you may find yourself going to Japan to train with our founder, Joshua Krill (below on the left), and his teacher, Shiraishi sensei (middle right), a direct student of the Grandmaster!

Rennes Gerenser (middle left), one of our teachers this year, was lucky enough to go with one of our alumni, Lisa Nghe (right), this past summer!

Hello all! Again, we would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has come this year to train with us, and to Krill-sensei for generously taking time out of his life in Japan to come teach us. We would also like to offer congratulations and thanks to our new executive board as of last night:

President : Rennes Gerenser
Vice-president: Jonathan Guba
Secretary: Daniel Hong
Treasurer: Kyle Napierala

Of course Gerenser-sensei and Guba-sensei have put in a lot of time and effort into both teaching and helping the club run smoothly, as occupiers of the two most important positions! They have been highly dedicated to training and to the club--and no, neither of them is writing this! Their help and time has been essential, and their dedication to the club for another year (their last year at Ursinus, sadly) is much appreciated.

Kyle and Danny (Napierala-san and Hong-san, to be more formal) have shown a dedication in consistently coming to training whenever they've been able, and have been a great help in agreeing to take on their respective titles. And, of course, their taijutsu has improved quite a bit over this past year--but of course, in training, there's never an end to how much you can improve!

Congratulations and thanks to our new board, and we wish them luck next academic year!

Hello all! Tonight we will be having class as usual, and Tenaglia-sensei will be instructing. However, we have an important announcement, which we apologize for not stating earlier: this week is our last week of training, and tonight is our last class. Although we do have one more week before finals week begins, we thought it would be best, not only for students but for us instructors as well, to stop training the week before finals. Around that time, work begins to pile in (more so than it already has), so we figured we'd give everyone the opportunity to focus more on schoolwork next week.

We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for everyone who has stopped by to train with us; without you, our instructors would sit in an empty room for two and a half hours! But it really has been great to train with everyone, and see people's skills and interest in Budo Taijutsu develop. We were also incredibly fortunate to be able to welcome Krill-sensei to Ursinus this year for a series of seminars, and to have him work on techniques and principles we would otherwise only get in Japan. It was also great to meet and train with practicioners who trained with Papa-san and elsewhere. All in all, it's been an incredible year, and we look forward to seeing you tonight, and when we start up again in the fall!

Last night, Guba-sensei worked on some more practical self-defense, instructing on how to best disarm someone with a firearm (with Guba-sensei himself starring as a mugger). This is the result of his instruction (with Kyle Napierala and Jonathan Guba).

Although we primarily work on and emphasize Budo Taijutsu as a martial art, specifically as practiced by Shiraishi-sensei, we are in part a self-defense club and work on more practical techniques from time to time.

Anyway, some great training was had last night, and we hope to see you all tonight!

Hello all! Unfortunately, we will not be able to hold class today due to instructor conflicts. We apologize for this further cancellation on top of last week, but for the remainder of the semester, we doubt situations like this will pop up again.
