For Immediate Release:
At approximately 10am today, the Townsend Fire Department was paged out along with the Nicolet Fire District for a report of a structure fire due to lightning. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a single-family dwelling with fire and smoke from the roof. Firefighters spent nearly 5 hours extinguishing the fire and doing salvage and overhaul. All residents and pets were safe, and there were no firefighter injuries.
Townsend Fire was assisted by departments from Lakewood, Doty, Riverview, Mountain, and Cooked Lake as well as Lakewood-Townsend Ambulance and the Oconto County Sheriff's Department.

Our Fire Danger is still High and all Annual Burn Permits are suspended. Please be careful with your campfires!

For Immediate Release:
At approximately 2:23pm today, Townsend Fire Department along with the Nicolet Fire District were dispatched to a report of a fully involved detached garage with a house close to it. Upon arrival, the garage was fully involved, and fire had spread to a nearby tractor, wood pile as well as the home. Firefighters worked to extinguish the fires as well as prevent any further damage to the house.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
Cause of fire was debris burning.

Townsend Fire was assisted by fire departments from Lakewood, Doty, Riverview, Crooked Lake, and Mountain as well as the Oconto County Sherriff Department, and the DNR Fire Rangers.

Area departments spent yesterday evening doing live fire training on a donated house. This was an invaluable opportunity for all members. Participating departments were Townsend Fire Department, Lakewood Fire Department, Doty Fire Department and Riverview Fire Department. A big shout out to Hansen's Excavating for giving us this opportunity!

With the minimal rain that we got early this morning, along with the wind and low humidity, our current fire danger is Very High and all burn permits are suspended. Campfires for cooking and warming are permitted but please be very careful! Have a garden hose out and ready.
