Most of the blanks we acquired were fabricated and sanded but not yet painted. We have been clear coating them with marine spar varnish -- multiple coats with buffing in between -- resulting in a rich looking, tobacco-colored, wood-like finish.

No two blanks look exactly the same because of the normal variation in the color of fiberglass/resin in use at that time. We have gotten uniformly positive reactions from customers, many describing the blanks as "simply beautiful".

Most of these blanks are very light and, despite their age, they are very strong. We have NEVER had a blank returned because of breakage. A listing of these blanks giving length, butt and tip diameter, weight, action and price can be found at http://vintagerods.com/other/other1.htm

Back in the 1980's, fishing rod manufacturers including Garcia closed their US plants and took rod manufacture to the orient where labor cost were lower. This was the fate in 1982 of the Conolon Plant in Santa Ana California. Many components were left behind including rod blanks, reel seats, cork grips and more.
We acquired much of this inventory in 1982 and, finding little interest in it at the time, left it in storage and ignored it.

Recent years have seen a resurgence of interest in fiberglass blanks and we were pleased that numerous expert custom rod builders were thrilled to find that these American made blanks with the unique Conolon action were still available.

My wife and I have been quietly selling these through eBay -- just a few each week.
I just turned 82 and that level of business is fine with me.
