Even with the chilly temps and a stiff breeze, the big walleyes were definitely on the feed! The cooler weather moving in should drop water temps even more, which usually means one thing… the big girls are only getting hungrier.

If you don’t mind layering up and getting your hands a little cold, there’s still time to stick some fat fall walleyes like these!

Had an awesome afternoon on the water with Chris and Max! 🌬️ The wind made us work for it, but we got it done. Fall fishing is in full swing right now, and the bite should stay hot through the end of the month.

🎣 Lake Vermilion Fall Fishing Report – It’s On! 🍁
Fall fishing is in full swing on Lake Vermilion, and the bite has been a blast!

I’ve been finding fish on both shallow and deep rock humps, with a great mix of walleyes and big, chunky smallmouth bass. Lately, the shallower spots have been stacked with smallmouth, but there are still some big walleyes mixed in. The deeper you go the higher the ratio is with walleyes to bass.

Baits of choice:
• 🪱 Sucker minnows on Lindy rigs
• 🎯 Jigging Raps

👉 Don’t be afraid to go BIG with your bait. I’ve been catching 16” walleyes on 6–7” light northern sucker minnows, and the larger minnows are definitely separating the quality fish from the pack. Jigging Raps are nailing fish too, but will also pick up the smaller ones in those same schools

👨‍👩‍👧 Taking kids or just want fast action?
Grab a bucket of light northern sucker minnows and hit the 7–10 ft reefs. When you land on a school, the action can turn ON in a hurry—and they are HUNGRY right now!

The bass bite has been just as fun, with impressive average size on those bigger minnows.

🍂 This is hands-down my favorite time of year to be on the water. If this sounds like your kind of fun, I still have a few openings through the end of October.

🎣 What a great day on Lake Vermilion!

It was a pleasure hosting the employees of Adolfson & Peterson Construction for a company fishing trip. The fish were cooperative, and everyone was able to head home with a nice catch!

A big thank you to the other guides who helped make the day a success: Steve Krasaway, Matt Schultz, Bill Nieters, and Justin Chromy.

This weekend my kids and I had a blast fishing with my niece and nephews! I tried something new—picked up a bunch of unpainted Flicker Shads and let the kids paint them with their own designs. 🖌️🎨

The best part? Every kid caught a fish on their custom bait! 🐟🙌 When they landed one, they got to name their color—this walleye was caught on “Tigger”! 🐯 The kids loved it, and my niece even hopped in the boat to catch her first walleye. 🥳

If you’ve got kids you want to get into fishing, this is an awesome way to make it fun. You could easily do the same with any bass-style hard bait. 🎣💡

Fishing overall was 🔥—leadcore was still producing quality fish on the mud flats (30–35 ft), and fish are starting to slide into their fall spots. 🍂 Cooler weather ahead will start bringing down the water temps meaning some of the biggest fish of the year are right around the corner, and I’ve got a few openings left this month + plenty of room in October. Let’s go! 🚤

The mayflies are starting to pop on the east end of the lake, but that hasn’t slowed us down. Staying shallow has been key for us lately—still working those slip bobbers in 3–8 feet of water around rocky humps, shorelines, and points. Large boulders seem to be the ticket!

We’ve found that mobility is everything—we’ll often catch a few fish right away, then things slow down. Don’t be afraid to move and pick off those active fish.

While we expect more fish to shift into deeper summer patterns soon, don’t overlook the shallow bite—there’s definitely a population that sticks shallow all season, especially with crayfish in the mix. I always have a slip bobber rod ready!
