A year ago this month I headed up to Vancouver to teach a couple of FMA workshops, never got around to posting about it. 🤣🤦🏽‍♂️

Big thanks to Annie Kali Gal, Jonathan Pang, and Jeff Marvin for organizing everything, and thanks to Jo Fitzgibbons, Stefan Lee Yuen, Tricia D**g, and Andrew Chin for the hangs and supporting! Hope to make it back up again someday!

Taught my final class for earlier this week. Want to thank .alvin.catacutan for giving me a home at Pamana the last 4 years. Started in 2019 and then got rudely interrupted by the pandemic, but we pivoted to teach online, and made it through the shutdown.

This is an amicable parting, it’s just time for me to go in a different direction. I have no plans to teach at another school for now, just sticking with my private students and workshops while I make some big life and career changes outside of martial arts.

Thanks also to G**o .m , as well as the kuyas .does.stuff817 .ramirez .knack.37 for all their help, as well as all of the students. Honored to be part of your martial arts journey. I wish G**o Alvin and Pamana continued success at the home base and their expansions. Salamat po, pugay po!🙏🏽

Nothing flashy, but essential. Giving a student reps on deflectors / shields vs full midline strikes. Of course stepping out of range and striking their arm is safer and preferred, but this is for times that you’re caught out of position with your weapon, timing, or your feet.

Simple guidelines- get behind your weapon/shield, brace if needed, make sure the follow through won’t get you. Can also put a little juice into it by adding some counter energy at point of impact. Bonus quality of these is you get to fire your riposte while they’re still following through. But that’s for another day.

Always good to see my buddy when he’s in town. We spent a few hours training, learning from each other and exchanging ideas, training methods, and technical details, but we were so wrapped up in training and conversation that we didn’t video any content. sorry!
