When I was young and training in shotokan, I despised doing kata; the teacher would put me in the hall and make me practice in isolation. The attempt to get me to conform did not work - I’d spend the time doing high kicks until I would hear the door opening, and then feign compliance. Although I am not interested in pursuing any other systems, with time, I’ve developed an appreciation and respect for many martial arts. In this clip Mr. Toyama is doing some interesting movement (the cool beard is a bonus).
