Flashy footwork doesn’t create great athletes
it reveals the qualities they’ve already built.
Too many athletes chase the drills they see on social media because they look fast, explosive, or impressive. But copying the movement isn’t the same as developing the ability behind it.
Elite athletes can afford to spend time on low-value drills because they’ve already built an incredible foundation of strength, power, speed, and coordination. If you’re a young athlete trying to earn a roster spot or separate yourself from the competition, you can’t afford to waste training sessions.
Sport-specific drills absolutely have their place, but they should complement, not replace the work that actually makes you more explosive. The biggest difference-makers are your ability to produce force, produce it quickly, and coordinate your body to express that force.
Don’t just train to look fast. Train to be fast. Build the engine first, and the flashy movements will take care of themselves.
