Girls' Basketball Summer Camp set for July 5-9 has been rescheduled due to the City of Tonkawa's "Boil Order."

The new camp dates are July 12-16.

Twelve girls attended the Northern Oklahoma College Girls’ Basketball Camp for Grades K-3 June 8-10.

Camp director Greg Krause along with assistants Dev-Ann Geary and Avery Strickland worked the three-day event.

Campers included Cassidy Williams, Medford; Hadley Loesch, Medford; Spencer Warwick, Oklahoma City; Baylor Bowling, Tonkawa; Caroline Dice, Tonkawa; Blakely Moore, Tonkawa; Coach Krause, Sutton Simpson, Tonkawa; Tylee Wright, Blackwell; Keslie Stokesberry, Tonkawa; Addison Betzen, South Haven, Kansas; Evanjeline DeNoya, Ponca City; and Henley Atkinson, Perry.

According to Krause, the focus was on introducing basic skills such as dribbling, passing, defensive and varied offensive skills. Lowered goals were used to teach offensive skills.

On the final day, campers demonstrated their skills for their parents. Each girl received a T-shirt, a regulation size basketball and a certificate of completion.

Two more camps are scheduled including Grades 3-6 camp June 21-25 and the Grades 7-12 camp from July 5-9.

Twenty-six girls attended the Girls’ Basketball Camp June 9-11 for grades K-3. Girls from Tonkawa, Ponca City, Blackwell, Morrison, Medford, Owasso, South Haven (KS), and Wellington (KS) attended the three-day event led by Lady Mavs Head Coach Greg Krause.

Blackwell area athletes attend girls’ basketball camp

A total of 10 athletes from the Blackwell area attended the five-day girls’ basketball camp directed by Greg Krause, head coach for the Northern Lady Mavs June on 25-29.

Campers worked on mass drills, station drills and team transition offense skills, including work on floor balance, filling lanes, court spacing, advancing the ball and shot selection. They also participated in one-on-one, two-on-two and three-on-three drills; hot shot and free throw contests; and league games.

Campers included Natalie Betzen, South Haven, KS; Teagan Burke, Blackwell; Hailey Carson, Blackwell; Kynnedy Gill, Wellington, KS; Graycen Grell, Braman/Blackwell; Elsie Tickel, Blackwell/Peckham; Catey Skidmore, Blackwell; Madison Reed, South Haven, KS; Hadley Holden, Blackwell; and Della Heater, South Haven, KS.

Camp awards were presented to the following athletes in Grades 3-4.

Della Heater – 3-On-3 (2nd Place), 2-On-2 (2nd Place)

Camp awards were presented to the following campers in Grades 5-6.

Catey Skidmore -- 3-On-3 (3rd Place)

Natalie Bentzen – 3-On-3 (2nd Place)

Kynnedy Gill – 2-On-2 (3rd Place)

Madison Reed – All-Star Game Outstanding Player (Grades 5-6)

Assisting at camp were Mike Heater, Head Girls’ Coach at South Haven, Kansas; Jackson Jacobs, Assistant Boys’ Coach at Newkirk; Andi Rollins, Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, Southwestern Christian University; and Kylee Beck, 4th Grade Teacher/Basketball Coach, Overholser Elementary, Putnam City.

Others included current Lady Mavs Maddy Wehrenberg, and Landri Hussey along with incoming freshmen Natalie Walker and Mattie Rich.
