✨️Reflections From the Mat✨️ I took my evening practice outside last night. There was a gentle breeze, but the heat of the day still lingered in the air.
I moved through a very simple practice. I am in an intense endometriosis flare, so gentle was key. I just needed to create space for my body and nervous system to find some ease.
After closing my practice, I looked down at my mat and ran my hand over its soft woven texture. A flood of memories and feeling moved through me.
This mat, a beautiful Mysore rug, has been a companion in my practice for nearly two decades!
It was with me through every session of my 500-hour training and has traveled with me to sit and learn from master teachers in my lineage.
I even opened my very first class at the studio sitting on this rug. The studio turns 15 next month!
It has held me in some of my darkest moments of grief and loss, and supported me through profound joy, insight, and inspiration. This simple cotton rug has held so much more than words could ever express. I am honestly moved to tears writing this.
The next time you roll out your mat, take a moment to pause and reflect on the journey you have taken together.
Roll it out with reverence; like you are setting up a sacred altar. When your practice comes to an end, offer gratitude for how it carried you. Honor it as you would a dear friend & teacher.
Let this become part of your practice 💛
