V4 The Dangers of Following FAD Diet

•What is a FAD diet?- According to the British Dietetics Association, a FAD diet is any diet that promises rapid weight loss. •The diets are restrictive and don’t have any scientific evidence to support its claims.
•There are many types of FAD diets, but some of the most popular FAD diets are the vegan diet, the paleo diet, and the keto diet.
Why FAD diets are Dangerous

1. They are too restrictive- When you follow a FAD diet, you are missing out on essential vitamins and minerals needed for the body to sustain itself, and many of these FAD diets exclude certain foods that your body needs to stay healthy .
2. They lack essential nutrients the body needs to sustain itself. Many FAD diets exclude whole grains and carbohydrates, which the body heavily relies on for fül and energy. Other FAD diets like the vegan diet exclude meat and other animal products, which leaves people susceptible to various nutritional deficiencies when not planned right.
3. FAD diets are too expensive. The average monthly cost of following a FAD diet back in 2021 was anywhere between $50-$250 a month. , all the way up to $200-$500 a month. The end result is an increase in cravings for junk food, a yo-yo effect after weight loss, and eventually quitting the diet altogether it’s too hard to follow.

Myths and Facts about Supplements
*Myth: Supplements are on store shelves, so they must be safe.
*Fact: Supplements are not regulated by the FDA, resulting in inaccurate packaging labels and athletes getting busted for failed drug tests.
*Myth: Any supplement can help an athlete heal from injury
*Fact: Choosing which supplement to take for different types of injuries is important, depending on the type of injury. Examples include: Soft tissue/ligament or tendon injuries: Collagen Peptides, Omega-3s, Vitamin D, Creatine Bone injuries: Vitamin D, Calcium, Collagen Peptides Concussions: Creatine, DHA, Omega 3

*Myth: Creatine is all athletes need to gain weight and muscle.
Facts: Being in a calorie surplus— eating more calories than you burn each day — is ultimately what promotes weight and muscle gain. If you do not eat adequate food each day, your body will not grow, even if you use creatine. When you are in a calorie surplus, creatine can help support muscle growth.

*In accordance with the data, there are ways for you to lose weight and keep it offin a safe and healthy way. Here are some tips, as well as some do’s and dont’s on how to lose weight.

Do’s
get active for 150 minutes a week – you can break this up into shorter sessions
aim to get your 5 A Day – 80g of fresh, canned or frozen fruit or vegetables count as 1 portion
aim to lose 1 to 2lbs, or 0.5 to 1kg, a week
read food labels – products with more green colour coding than amber and red are often a healthier option
swap sugary drinks for water – if you do not like the taste, add slices of lemon or lime for flavour
cut down on food that’s high in sugar and fat – start by swapping sugary cereal for wholegrain alternatives
share your weight loss plan with someone you trust – they can help motivate you when you have a bad day

Dont’s
do not lose weight suddenly with diets
do not stock unhealthy food – popcorn, fruit and rice cakes can be healthier alternatives
do not skip meals – you might end up snacking more because you feel hungry
do not finish your plate if you’re full – you can save leftover food for the next day
