2nd fishing report, recap of early and late fall to beginning of winter ice December,2024. Earlier this fall Isaac and I hit the water and did some fishing. We were out on a sun filled cool day with north winds. Northern, walleyes, and smb were biting pretty good, but soft. I was a little surprised with catching quality fish just after a cold front, but the water temp had dropped 10 degrees in a short time from the end of summer temps. Pretty sure this had something to do with the bite. Week or so later clients and I hit the water for mixed bag action. Weather turned sunny, almost hot, and no wind for a fall day! Nice day on the water, but almost too hot to fish by afternoon! First part of the day we pitched plastic along the w**ds.not much biting, but John got us going with northern pike out of the w**ds! Good job and release! The bite was slow today, then we switched to bobbers and minnows. John and Connie caught and released nice perch and crappies just off a channel area. Later with some wind finally we had a run of medium pike, and John finished the day off with a beautiful daytime smb! Way to go! Good release! Congrats to John and Connie! We had an amazing time on the water! During the middle of the fall fishing the flowages for me kinda of lost it's "luster" with water levels dropping quite rapidly mainly because of severe drought situations! First week in December the boys and I hit the ice! We fished off shore in the 3 to 6' stuff. On this overcast day with light snow and rain the boys caught pike and had other bites that were minnow robbers! Shoreline ice was 6". Good job Christian and Isaac! The following weekend the boys and i moved out further. The ice almost doubled after the recent cold snap! Ice thickness pretty good with not much snow on top, because the snow is like insulation, keeps it from freezing and also protects the ice from the sun! We set up on the 8' edge using slippery jack minnows. Today we caught some walleye during the day along with some pike. We also were able to get our small fish house out? That's a good day! The next day cloudy, drizzle, and soft ice conditions! Bite was slow, don't know why, it just was. We caught some smaller walleye around dark, pretty slow, but fun at the same time! Anytime you hang out with family and friends it's a good time! Current ice conditions: we just got done with a thaw, then freeze, and now a blanket of fresh snow, couple inches of powder that will probably drift over the next day or so. We are off to a pretty good start for the lakes, but keep in mind that we had a freeze and thaw season, and that different bodies of water don't freeze the same! Check the ice wherever you go! The trails aren't marked yet on the lakes! If you are looking for a day on the ice give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. End of August beginning of September (Canada fishing trip 2024). From my last radio fishing report I mentioned about heading up north to do a little fishing and work on the cabin "A". Just before the holiday weekend my dad, brother, and our sons loaded up the utv's and gear for a longer weekend. We a couple of hrs north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada and then unloaded the utv's for a long, but beautiful 4.5 hr ride through the "bush"! The old roads and trails are washed out rock roads, along with greasy mud stretches, and over grown brush and branch areas, but the scenery is breathtaking! The first full day weather: sun and clouds nice day! The kids went fishing for brook trout good part of the day. They used mainly "blade-flashers" either single blade or double pulling crawlers. The boys did a great job and caught some nice eaters for breakfast! During the day the adults spent time working on the cabin. With not many visitors throughout the years there is always maintenance to be done! Later that evening before supper dad and I took a float on the lake for specs. The bite was a little slower than what I use to remember, but probably was just the weekend we were there and along with the cooler winds blowing through if you get my drift! Speaking of drift, halfway through dad caught a dandy on his homemade spinner! Great job and release! I pulled a flasher with a "wobble" maybe a bite or two but no luck! I think my lure was too high in the water column. When paddling along you need to basically have the same lure out as fishing partner has otherwise you'll be high with one lure and snagging the bottom with the heavier lure! You just have to experiment! The next morning Flea and I caught some trout on shoreline edges just where it drops off with wind blowing across. The bite was spotty but fun! We also tried another lake. It was quite an adventure with sawing out blow downs trying to get there! When finally arrived the weather was gusty along rain showers and non biting fish! The adventure took longer than expected, but still was fun! Later that evening Isaac and I made some laps around the lake. Bite was slow there but Isaac had a couple of fish on , but they didn't stay hooked long enough. My brother Matt and his son Caden conoed down to my old beaver pond hot spot. They casted small spinners in shallow water areas compared to the lake and did pretty good for a tough evening! Good job boys! That's sounds about like fishing at home. Some areas are good and other areas are poor at certain times! Timing is everything no matter what you do! The next day we packed up and did some last minute chores and some repairs on the camp, then headed for home! Congrats to Flea, Matt, Cayden, Isaac, and myself! We truly had a fantastic weekend! I highly recommend people to experience a wilderness trip like this! This kid of a trip is (Rugged And Remote) and very beautiful! It's not meant for everyone being rustic and all, but you should experience something like this at least once! I have been very lucky earlier in my life and was able to do these trips quite frequently! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. This is Roman Derleth reminding you: Don't slack off, and always keep your line tight! Good luck fisherman!! BE SAFE!!!

Fishing report #17 4th week of August, 2024. During the week on one fine evening I got out and made a few casts. Weather conditions: sunny, warm, light winds at times, water up to 77 degrees. I started fishing areas with a " breeze" wherever I could find some even though this changed my so called "milk route". I bounced plastics along w**d tops and then "Whammo" fish on! My pole stayed bent over and down, and I knew this was no walleye! After a few good minutes I boated a beautiful 19" SMB! Great release! I tell you what, there is a lot of people who don't care for catching SMB, but when you get a good one on a smaller jig,or a hook that's not meant to hold like the real bass stuff, you got yourself a fight! It's a blast! Later I got to catch a nice keeper walleye, and great release of course! Wasn't marking much on the graph at the time, but then " Whammo" just like the bass it was a good bite! The moral of the story was have fun and catch your bites that are given! That's what you need to do out in the fishing world! There not always jumping in the boat! Get "R" done! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. This is Roman Derleth reminding you: Don't slack off, and always keep your line tight! Fishing report #16. Second week of August, 2024. Earlier in the week clients and I hit the water for some mixed-bag action. Weather conditions: sun and clouds, warm afternoon air, WNW winds, water temps 70 degrees. We casted soft plastics along wind blown w**d lines. It looked like a good night for fishing decent wind at times, sky color, but water temp dropped about 10 degrees from the last cold front since my recent report. While casting Lisa got us going with a potential fish or w**d? But then we ended up with a big tooth stuck in the lure! Just before the non-predicted rain, George and William hooked into a daily -double! Catching and releasing a nice walleye and crappie! Way to go boy's! We kept moving around and stuck to our "milk-route" getting some occasional bites and fish. Once again Lisa showed the boys how to fish on her Zebco pole! She caught and landed the only decent walleye of the night! That's fantastic! We did have some nice fish come off the hook at boatside. Not to add more salt to our wounds, but that is how fishing goes sometimes! The last drift we ended up with some nice bites and Colin Landed a nice little walleye! Good job! It was a slow night for fishing, but it was nice to be on the water with good people having fun! Congrats to Colin, Lisa, and the boys, George, William, and Henry. We had a very nice evening on the water together! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. Fishing report #15. Beginning of August, 2024. Just over the weekend clients and I hit some river water for some smallmouth bass action. Weather conditions: cool AM, mostly sunny skies, warm and sticky afternoon, calm winds, water 77 to 83 degrees. Our main focus was casting cranks and soft plastics in and along the cabbage w**d especially where the bait fish were "stacked"! We had a little bit of a slow bite early, then the sun started warming things up along with the fishing. Then young 10 yr old Anders got us started with some good walleye on the crank! Way to go! Then Dave joined in on the feeding frenzie of walleye! Soon after I made some cast with the tube jig. Then Anders and I got into more walleye and finally some SMB in the 17 to 18" range! The afternoon bite was pretty good. Anders was casting around a walleye jig and tail. Then suddenly"pow" he hooks a big brown bass! After about 5 minutes of heart pounding excitement we finally got the fat beast in the net! The fat fish measured 19.5" long! What a beautiful daytime fish in the sun! Congrats to Anders! Great Release!!! Dave got to catch some beautiful SMB as we'll, including a big bite off at the end. Think it was a very large musky! It definitely was a plastic afternoon bite today! Congrats to Anders and Dave! We had a fantastic day of catch and release! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. This is Roman Derleth reminding you: Don't slack off, and always keep your line tight! Good luck fisherman!! BE SAFE!!!

Fishing report #14. The end of July, 2024. During the beginning of the week I checked out the bite for clients. Weather conditions: sun and clouds, southerly winds, water 72 to 74 degrees. I casted mainly soft plastics in and around w**d lines. It wasn't too long and i had my first bites of the day. Walleye were being caught and released with the chance to fight another day! I also had a few light bites, but other species of fish were not exactly jumping in the boat. Could be from the cool water temps on this day. This past week the weather was very hot and humid! Fish early and late in the day! Make sure you stay hydrated if you are fishing in the heat, be safe! Also look for areas with more flow of water you should have better luck in these areas! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. This is Roman Derleth reminding you: Don't slack off, and always keep your line tight! Fishing report #13. 4th week of July, 2024. Just over the weekend clients and I hit the water for some mixed-bag action. Conditions were mostly sunny, hot, and not much wind, water 77 to 81 degrees, and water ways were extremely busy! Right off the bat w**ds were fished casting soft plastics, and right off the bat walleye and crappie were in a "feeding-frenzie", but was short lived with sun getting hot and several boats "churning" up the w**d beds. Late afternoon we headed out for the before the rain bite. John caught a beauty keeper walleye on a crankbait, and uncle Dave had a good pike on at the same time, but got bit off at boatside. We had some late crappie and smb action, but the bite was a little slow, from warmer water temps, and heavy boat traffic! Congrats to John and Uncle Dave! We had a fantastic time on the water!! The beginning of the week clients and I hit some river water for SMB! Conditions: extreme fog, rather warm, and no wind, water 77 to 83 degrees. We casted crainkbaits, twisters, tube-jigs, and buzz-baits along the cabbage w**ds. Didn't take to long and lan caught smb and walleye on the crank! The bite was slow in the fog period, but Ian figured out how to catch fish! His dad Bob was not having any luck! I told him that you need to relax and be positive, and good things will happen! Later the boys caught some good walleye on the "cranks" fishing the cabbage. We also searched for any wind possible. This lead to fishing different spots which lead to the boys "thumping" good day time bass, walleye, and a few pike! Congrats to Bob and Ian! We had a pretty good day on the water with tough bite conditions! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. This is Roman Derleth reminding you: Don't slack off, and always keep your line tight! Good luck fisherman!! BE SAFE!!!

Fishing report #12. Middle of July, 2024. Earlier in the week I was scouting on the water for clients. Conditions were: mostly sunny, very hot and humid, light westerly winds, water 74 to 80 degrees. First stop I hit some shallow w**ds and casted some jigs around. I was able to catch and release some smaller walleye! Later I moved around and found northern pike, and some decent crappie in the mix as well! The fish weren't exactly jumping in the boat, but for a hot busy day on the water I was able to catch and release nice fish! Later in the week a client and I hit the water for some mixed-bag action. Conditions were: quite warm, almost no wind, mostly sunny, water 77 degrees. Right off the bat we hit the cabbage casting jigs. We had some action with a couple of walleye bites and some good releases! Then just like that "no wind" no bites! We moved around checking and casting, and pretty much just to cool off! We caught a good crappie or too in this period, not much but enough to keep the "spirits" up! Towards dark it was like a gift out of nowhere. The wind picked up and fish on! Palmer caught and released many good walleye, and some beauties in the 17 to 19" range! Lastly he finished off the night with a beautiful 33 to 35" musky caught on a walleye jig and no leader!! Way to go!! Good thing I bought the musky net today! Congrats to Palmer and myself! We had a fantastic evening! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. This is Roman Derleth reminding you: Don't slack off, and always keep your line tight! Good luck fisherman!! BE SAFE!!!

Fishing report #11. First week of July, 2024. Just over the weekend Isaac and I went to work, and searched for mainly smb and walleye on the local river systems. Weather conditions: mostly sunny, afternoon air 80 degrees, winds wsw 3-8 mph, water 74. With the water ways being quite busy with people having fun in the sun, we grabbed pretty much whatever was available to fish. Almost immediately I caught a smaller size smb, Kool! Didn't get "skunked" ! Then Isaac had a decent fish "blow-up" on the buzz-bait along the slop, but no hook! With darker clouds rolling in, and a breeze picking up we changed locations and casted mainly soft plastics along the w**ds. Just like that with the weather acting like a weak front and not producing rain or anything nasty, it produced a fair amount of walleye including some no "doubters" that were released! We also got into a batch of good SMB! You know what I'm talking about, some of those "chunky - toads"! Great day time fish! Turned out to be a good night of catch and release fishing! This weekend the weather will be turning hot! Fish early and late and try to avoid the heat of the day! Stay hydrated! Also be cautious handling fish! Keep them in the water and release them immediately during hot weather and warm temps, to preserve our fisheries! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. This is Roman Derleth reminding you: Don't slack off, and always keep your line tight! Good luck fisherman!! BE SAFE!!!

Fishing report #10. Last weekend of June, 2024. Over the weekend clients and I hit the water for some mixed bag action. Weather conditions: sun and clouds, to mostly cloudy, afternoon rain and passing cold front, water 70-73 degrees. We started off casting crank baits, twisters, buzz-bait and tube jigs on the local river system. It was a little slow start, but then things got going. Jon started us off with nice little smb on the crank, and Howard scored a beautiful smallie on the crank, and Jimmy got his first walleye on the plastic! Congrats to the boys! Mid morning we got into some nicer classes of smb on the tube jig including catching some walleye! Northern pike were caught in the "frenzie" also. Congrats to Jon with the largest! Turned out to be a pretty good morning of fishing! Next we switched waters and headed to another river system. Bite was really slow. We caught some Rockbass, and smaller Pike. The was definitely slow on this water for having a approaching cold front weather! (Time to go!) We switched waters again and headed for the flowage! Late afternoon weather getting dark and looking like rain. The boys casted mainly plastics catching walleye from the subs to legal sizes. Some dandy slab crappie were caught and released and released by everyone also! Then the bite was interrupted by rain, along with freezing cold air and changing winds out of the north! Then the bite was finished, and so were we! Congrats to Howard, Jon, and Jimmy! We had a fantastic day of 100 percent catch and release!! This week and weekend will be quite busy on the water being the week of the "fourth"! Try to be polite and courteous on the local waters and boat launches! Respect our beautiful woods and waters! Most importantly BE SAFE!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. Fishing report #9. Last week of June, 2024. Earlier in the week I got out and did some scouting for clients on the local river waters. Conditions were: warm, sun and clouds, to thunderstorms and cool rain, wind NW, water 71 to 73 degrees. Right off the bat I hit the cabbage w**d throwing a crank for smallies, and right off the bat on the second or third cast it was bump, bump, slam! Fish on! At first I thought it was a lunker bass, but then shortly "no-way"! I then hit "spot-lock" on the trolling motor and battled the beast! After about 10 minutes you guessed it a chunky 38" or better musky launched airborne, and threw the crank! Could have used a good net man today, but was exciting to see! With the weather changing rapidly the bite window was closing fast. I hit some new w**ds and was able to catch some smaller SMB and Pike on the crank! Then just like that I took cover from the thunderstorm that weren't supposed to happen! After the passing weather, I hit some thick w**ds with the buzz-bait looking for aggressive fish even though the bite changing weather just past. I found pike up in the w**ds that just mainly slapped at the bait, but was fun action! A cast or two later it was getting time to head home, then a 42 to 45" musky took a big o'l lazy swing and missed the lure at boatside! That was a good way to end the evening! And besides I did not have a big enough net on board anyways for this trip, because I was just bass fish"n"! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. This is Roman Derleth reminding you: Don't slack off, and always keep your line tight! Good luck fisherman!! BE SAFE!!!

Fishing report #8. Middle of June, 2024. Over the weekend Isaac and I got out fishing for a little mixed bag action. Weather: filtered sun to mostly cloudy, wind SSE 15 mph+ and gusty, water 68 to 72 degrees. Right off the bat we hit wind blown areas, and right off the bat I was able to catch and release a nice crappie! I thought here we go, and then nothing. It was like (d-e-j-a-v-u) all over again! Many things were going through my mind in a matter of minutes like: Is fishing slow because of: Too much rain? Large May fly hatches? Eurasian Milfoil w**d problem in the lakes? The body of water currently fishing? The answer is yes to these factors, but we stayed focused on the fishing and tried not to solve world problems! We switched tactics and hit some "skinny", really "skinny" shallow water. Then Isaac started getting snake pike, and walleye on the beetle - spin! That's fantastic! I pumped in some smaller walleye in the "frenzie" also! It wasn't an afternoon of pileing the fish up, but at least for a slow day we were catching fish and having fun! Look for the next week's weather to be dry and stable! Hopefully the weather guy's are right! If you are looking for a day on the water give me a call at 715-966-1821. We'll that wraps it up for this time. This is Roman Derleth reminding you: Don't slack off, and always keep your line tight! Good luck fisherman!! BE SAFE!!!
