"Coming Down The River"

We've been busy dreaming up a few new things around here, and the first wave of Rivergirl merchandise is now available for pre-order.

From hats and t-shirts to cozy fleece pants, these designs are inspired by the river, the mountains, the wildlife, and the stories we've shared together over the years.

From the Hellbender to the Bald Eagle, Big Foot to Full Moon...we can't decide which is our favorite.

We've got more designs floating our way and will be adding them to the collection as soon as they're ready. So if something catches your eye, go ahead and claim it. And if you're not seeing exactly what you're looking for yet, stay tuned...there's more coming around the bend.

NEW PRIDE FLOAT COLLECTION HAS ARRIVED!

The river has room for everyone.

To celebrate our upcoming PRIDE Float on June 28th, we've created a special collection featuring our new Pride Float sticker along with an opportunity to support the LGBTQ+ Housing Initiative right here in the High Country.

A special thank you goes out to Robert DePalma of BobbyD's for bringing our rainbow RiverGirl logo to life. He took the initiative to upgrade our logo into something colorful, meaningful, and perfectly at home on the river.

Rivergirl Sunshine Sunday

This week, I’m grateful for Chico.

Chico, was Kelly’s mom’s dog and came to her as a rescue from Alabama. Somewhere along the way, he decided he wasn’t really a dog at all.

He’s our official greeter, meeting each vehicle that pulls into the parking lot and patiently waiting for guests to follow him into the shop. If he’s not teaching fly fishing alongside Kelly, you’ll often find him sitting in one of the shuttle vans, ready to es**rt customers to the river.

Every now and then, he’ll quietly climb into a kayak or canoe with a guest and accompany them downstream. He seems to have a gift for sensing who needs a little extra calm, confidence, or companionship.

After Hurricane Helene, he even accompanied North Carolina’s First Lady on the river, apparently deciding it was his responsibility to demonstrate that the South Fork was still a safe and welcoming place.

He loves convincing people to exercise by placing a tennis ball at their feet. He somehow knows exactly when his favorite postal friends arrive with treats, even from a building away. And he has spent 15 years bringing comfort, laughter, and connection to strangers who often leave as friends.

What I’m most grateful for is the reminder he gives every day:

Everyone deserves to be noticed.
Everyone deserves a warm welcome.
Everyone deserves love and attention.

Chico doesn’t care where you’re from, what you do, what you believe, or what kind of day you’ve had.

He simply meets you where you are.

The world could use a little more Chico.

Most folks spend Wednesday looking at a clock.

We spend it looking at clouds reflected in the river.

Wind Down Wednesday isn’t about getting somewhere. It’s about slowing down long enough to notice where you already are.

A gentle float. Cool mountain water. Good conversation. Long stretches of silence if that’s what you need. The kind of evening where the river does most of the talking.

BIG RIVERGIRL NEWS

We’d like to officially recognize Grace Johnson as Rivergirl’s very first “Mac Daddy”.

Now before anyone asks… no, this isn’t a title you’ll find in a business textbook. 😄

Since joining Rivergirl in 2021, Grace has been a steady current behind the scenes, helping guests, supporting staff, solving problems, answering questions, and keeping the day flowing smoothly. Grace stepped up in a big way, taking on responsibilities far beyond what anyone expected and earning the trust and respect of our entire team.

As Rivergirl continues to grow and evolve, Grace will be taking on additional responsibilities involving communications, guest experience, staffing, and day-to-day operations.

The title may be playful, but the role is important.

Many of you have already met Grace at check-in, talked with her on the phone, or had her help make your day on the river a little easier. We’re grateful for her leadership, dedication, and the care she brings to Rivergirl every day.
