Going 3-1 on the weekend wasnt the ultimate goal, but after time to reflect there were positives. Let’s start off by saying the community, family members, and coaches are amazing for the support that they show! They are the ones that make this thing possible and they are the ones we are thankful for!
But here we go- making it to the final 4 and being the only team from one community/school district is an accomplishment. Yes-we came up short today in the game to get to the championship, but one or two things go differently and the outcome may be different.
We had three pitchers absolutely pound the zone! Yesterday, we played almost flawless defense. Today, we had to overcome several moments in both games as we didn’t play as clean as we normally do.
I am so proud of the boys for the way they are responding to bunting, moving runners, and having productive at bats! They always seem to put the team first and sometimes I forget that they are 10-11 yr olds.
Jo Taylor absolutely smoked a ball in the gap yesterday and his smile was priceless! The smiles on their faces is worth it all.
John Dotson dominated on the mound and played all over the place! Battled through sickness and John always puts his team first!
Brantley Kelley saw his first mound time, played outfield and infield, moved runners, and drew a throw during a game that brought in the go ahead run. He cares so much about the team he thought he let them down until we explained to him the difference he made!
Elian Sherman got his first mound time this weekend and did really well! You can definitely tell he is getting more and more comfortable at the plate, on the bases, and in the outfield! His speed is something that cannot be taught! The ball he hit to Right Center last night is one of many to come!
Rhett Miller played first all weekend and is the youngest player on the team- he challenged his teammates to pick up the intensity and to make more noise in the dugout! He had timely hits, moved runners and gave it 110%.
River Armour had a day yesterday. He held a good team to only 2 runs and really found his rhythm on the mound! Played infield and outfield and blistered a ball in the gap! The growth is obvious and there is plenty of room left.
Cash Roberson played infield, catcher, and pitched this weekend! As the lead off batter, he helped get things going and pushed the tempo! He had several big hits and swung it well! First game yesterday, Cash made a play with bases loaded, at short stop, that kept the other team from scoring- big moment, big momentum shift in the game!
Briggs Clack threw a runner out at home from CF and has a cannon! He had several big moments that killed momentum and he controlled the outfield! Briggs had several hits to keep things going and is always a threat with his speed!
Nolan Taylor had his best outing of the year game 1 and never looked back. Made several plays at short and drove the ball to both sides of the field! My favorite at bat, resulted in an out, but hitting a ground ball to the right side to score a run and time the game during game 4 was probably my favorite moment. We have practiced and emphasized being productive and having productive at bats.
Kreed Ivey had several key plays at second. The moment never seemed too big. Whether it was killing a rally in the field or moving runners and battling at the plate- he understands that the game is tough and he was up for the challenge. Kreed doesn’t let setbacks affect what is in front of him! His defense really stood out this tournament. And he hit the fence on the fly, dead center, on a line.
Beckham- get better buddy!! We missed you!!
Myles- we missed you!! Like always…
Ultimately, getting the team to stay together and see the progress from from year to another is what is inspiring! Our development shouldn’t be an option and making sure they love and respect the game is what we want. One day they will be able to pass it to the ones younger than them!
