Instructors with Kindermotion all bring experience in teaching, performing, coaching and more but we believe in growth - not just for students but for ourselves as educators. Each instructor takes part in comprehensive training and weeks of shadowing and co-teaching before taking on their own classes. What a wonderful sweet surprise today, in our last class of the season at the Little Compton Wellness center, where we hold classes. These beautiful little dancers skipped in, one by one, each holding a beautiful flower from their garden for me! I was beyond moved. It is a full circle moment to be teaching in the community where I did my student teaching more than 30 years ago!! Reason number two for why I do what I do - I love being part of my community in a meaningful way!!!

I often get asked why I started my business .There are so many answers I could give that would all be true - but as we prepare to celebrate high school graduation this weekend, having the flexibility to be part of my children's school events and other special days as they grew up is definitely high on the list! Tonight these little dancers received their moving, growing glowing star medals. At Kindermotion it's about more than dance moves, tumbling skills or sports drills. It is about showing up, trying something new, and growing in confidence along the way Tonight they glowed and I am so proud of them!

Putting movement in the classroom doesn't have to be one more thing to add to the curriclum. We can weave it in seamlessly with a little intentional planning - like having students carry an object on their head, follow a straight or zigzag path, or jump to their spots without touching the lines, as they line up.

We carefully plan learning experiences for reading and math, but I think movement sometimes gets overlooked.

As a former classroom teacher, it's important to me to put just as much thought into planning a physical education lesson as I once put into planning a reading lesson for my first graders.

Free play is incredibly valuable, but I often wonder if we're giving physical education the same level of intention that we give other areas of learning in early childhood.
