What is Unified Special Olympics and why?

Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities (I/DD) on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

These Unified teams practice and play at schools or in the community through Local Programs of Unified Special Olympics Oregon.

Tillamook, Fall sports registration open for:

Unified Soccer - practices begin September 20, 1:30 - 3:30pm; Watt Family Park, at 6385 Tillamook Avenue in Bay City

Bowling - PAC Bowling, Tillamook - Practices begin September 19, @ 1:00pm.

The Tillamook Cheddar Bocce Team just wrapped up participation in the Special Olympics Oregon Summer State Games 2026. Our delegates did an amazing job representing our county both on and off the court! Camaraderie and community was developed as they each supported each other in this weekend’s competition. They also very much enjoyed seeing and spending time with longtime friends representing other Oregon counties.

The team traveled to Oregon State University in Corvallis on Friday and settled into their dorm before enjoying a pizza dinner. Each team pair competed twice on Saturday before exploring Olympic Town and the Healthy Athlete Screenings. In the evening we were honored to represent Tillamook in the Parade of Athletes (a first in many years) leading into the Summer State Games ceremony followed by a Victory Dance with the longest conga lines ever! Each team competed twice more on Sunday before participating in the awards ceremony.

We would like to give our heartfelt gratitude to coach Sarah, assistant coach Brian, and assistant coach Randy for helping facilitate the team’s journey this season.
