TIFFIN COLUMBIAN NAMES KIAN THOMPSON HEAD BOYS WRESTLING COACH
TIFFIN, Ohio — Tiffin Columbian High School has named Kian Thompson as its new Head Boys Wrestling Coach, following approval by the Tiffin City Schools Board of Education.
Thompson has served as an assistant coach with the Columbian wrestling program since 2022. A 2017 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, he was a two-time Sandusky Bay Conference champion, two-time district champion, two-time OHSAA State Tournament qualifier and an OHSAA state placer.
Thompson continued his wrestling career at Tiffin University, competing for five seasons at the NCAA Division II level and serving as a three-year starter. He graduated with a Bachelor of Criminal Justice degree with a concentration in Homeland Security and Counterterrorism.
In 2023, Thompson founded Ohio Cyclones Wrestling, which has grown to include more than 80 youth wrestlers. He has also expanded training opportunities to junior high and high school wrestlers throughout the area, helping develop wrestlers who have gone on to become state qualifiers, state placers and All-Americans.
“Over the last four years, I think we’ve laid the foundation for this program and we’re back on the right track,” Thompson said. “We have a good group of kids that are bought in, want to work and give back. We got our first one to state since 2023 last season, and that was huge. This year, we’re starting off the season with two kids ranked inside the top eight for the first time in four years, and several others who could break through on any given Saturday.”
“I’m excited and grateful to be given the opportunity to be the head coach of this program,” Thompson added. “The foundation is set, and we’re going to get TC wrestling back on the map.”
Tiffin Columbian Director of Athletics and Activities Bill Beaston said Thompson’s vision for the entire wrestling program stood out during the selection process.
“The feedback we received throughout this process was overwhelmingly that Kian was the right person for the job,” Beaston said. “What truly set him apart was his detailed vision for connecting our youth, middle school and high school programs. His commitment to strengthening our numbers and developing wrestlers at every level made a tremendous impression on us.”
