The first-ever Wrenn Willey Scholarship Award recipients have been selected.
Before I share the recipients, I want to talk about what this scholarship means and what it's truly about.
Wrenn Willey was 7 years old and wrestled here at our club. He was a stud. He worked hard, stayed focused from the first warmup drill to the final sprint, and made everyone around him better. His attitude, effort, and love for wrestling left a lasting impact on our program.
This scholarship was created to keep Wrenn's name and spirit alive while helping provide young athletes with opportunities to pursue the things he never had the chance to experience.
The first recipients of the Wrenn Willey Scholarship are:
Isaiah Hook – Hopewell-Loudon
• 3.7 GPA
• Attending Tiffin University this fall to study Exercise Science
"I was taught to stay committed to my goals because success isn't given to you. Through wrestling, I've learned how to handle challenges and stay focused. The most important lesson wrestling has taught me is discipline and hard work."
Drew Aigler – Tiffin Columbian
• 3.7 GPA
• Attending Mount Union this fall to study Exercise Science
"No matter what setbacks happen to you, and no matter what is going on around you, you keep moving forward. It's a mindset of relentless hard work that I now apply to everything I do. The most important lesson wrestling taught me is that the harder you work, the luckier you get."
When I began the selection process, I wanted to recognize young men who truly understand the values of hard work, consistency, belief, character, and perseverance—both on and off the wrestling mat.
This was the first year of the scholarship, and the process will likely continue to evolve. But one thing I'm certain of is that these two young men are outstanding choices to represent what the Wrenn Willey Scholarship stands for.
Congratulations, Isaiah and Drew. We can't wait to see what you accomplish next.
