Youth lifter Matt (15) continues to progress with this 100kg clean and jerk. It’s great to have a young athlete with such focus and determination to technique and development.

As the saying goes, hindsight is 20/20. The better part of your athletic career is spent learning how to be an athlete. Everybody likes to put themselves on a timeline or compare themselves to others. No matter what, it takes time. So be present where you are and recognize that every session has its lesson- there are no bad training sessions. So long as you keep trying, you will get there.

When the Homie Alexander from 646 Weightlifting Gym comes by, you have to throw down with him. Been a minute since I’ve hopped on the deficit.

How do I train for BJJ relative to how I trained as a competitive weightlifter? The answer? It’s the exact same.

The only difference is not going as heavy - but the structure is the same. Nothing beats how sn**ch and clean and jerk develop an athlete. Plus the strength work and accessories make for a well rounded weightlifter and jiu-jitsu practitioner.

Olympic Weightlifting is the one sport for all sports. You can do any sport and it won’t improve your Olympic lifts, but you can Olympic lift and it will improve you for every sport.

Training programs should consist of exercise variations that help athletes improve technically and physically. Programs are more than just a list of exercises, but a roadmap to developing good habit and strong foundation of movement.
