Had a call yesterday to look for a doe that had been shot with a .308. The hunter said that when he shot, she dropped and laid there for about 5 minutes. Then he looked back and she was walking straight away from him.

There was a fair amount of blood at the site of the shot but that was it.

I figured that it was a “back whack” and told him that not many are recovered when that happens.

Let the boys out and they immediately got in a line headed in the direction that the hunter said the deer went.

About 250 yards out Reno barked and then the chase was on!

After almost 3 miles, I figured that the dogs would give up and come back, but to my surprise, they showed to be bayed on the Garmin Alpha 200. I had the hunter and his cousin go and get the golf cart they had and meet me where the dogs location was 550 yards away .

The boys just about finished her before I made it to them.

They did a great job on an almost bloodless 3 mile long track.

#70 for the year. And I couldn’t be more proud of them.

Busy year!

Had a call yesterday to track a buck shot the day before. The hunter jumped the buck while searching for it. We made it to the call about 36 hours after the shot. Wasn't much to go off of, just a few spots of blood and a little blood in the bed where he was jumped out of. The area had been grid searched the previous day after the buck was jumped and it showed on the Alpha screen. Lots of circling and no definition of a solid track. After about 30 minutes, I worked them around and started them over at the site of the shot. This time was much better. They worked through the maze and made it unmolested ground and then I saw what I liked multiple dogs on a line. Took about 15 minutes for them to cover 400+ yards. Then they showed being treed.

We were in some awful briars and it took us 10 minutes to get out of them and to a trail where we could move faster. The dogs were still stationary, so I was confident that they had found the deer. There was no blood on the track and when we got close, I could see Reno chewing on the Buck.

Had two people reach out about the bucks we tracked being back on camera. This one was a very long track 4+ miles. Started off with a huge amount of blood. We still had blood at the 1 mile mark where he crossed the paved road.

Finally had to give up on him in the end.

You can see where the megameat hit it in the neck after the arrow hit a limb.
