Rewind the clock about 38 years back. I was with my Grandpa and we were hauling 6 bulls out to the cows. We were in a 2 ton truck with a stock rack. We made it all the way up to this spring and popped 3 of 4 of our back tires. Grandpa had to walk back to the ranch 10+ miles away while I sat and played In the stream and waited. I was 6 years old and too slow to walk with him and too big to carry. So I waited and played in the stream for what felt like days.

This spring later was completely covered by a flood that deposited around 4 to 5 feet of dirt and mud over the spring

So I decided to finally dig it back out. Didn’t know if I would be able to remember where it was. But finally found it. Even in this extreme dry year this spring is running around 10 gallons a minute

With this warm weather we were able to get one more spring development started before the ground freezes up. Easily tripled the flow on this spring. Big water in the desert. We will come back and set tanks in the spring.

I saw this old cut in the hill a while back. Sure enough the old timers had built a canal ditch system that ran from the mouth of hay canyon out through the desert and filled these old ponds. This is a spot where they cut the channel through the little ridge to get water into the next draw.

We are Trying to get a little late season range improvement work done before the ground freezes hard. Just got Two more ponds back in working order

Two Springs Canyon. Upper and lower springs developed. Nothing but damp ground at the upper spring and nothing but dust at the lower spring. But we were able to get both flowing. Probably been 50+ years since anyone worked on these. From no water to flowing and full tanks.

This is an insane amount of grasshoppers. It’s time for a major effort from all agencies to get these under control. Willow creek, meadow creek, main canyon, sweetwater and bitter creek all losing the battle to these little monsters.

Rebuilding old CCC springs. I’m always amazed at how they accomplished what they did. Without the equipment we have today. This location is steep enough it’s almost more than this machine can do to climb in and out of the is location. Took me 4 days building a trail just to get to the spring.
