🚨 Proposed NC Law Threatens Coastal Fishing Industry 🎣
The NC Senate has amended House Bill 442 to ban all inshore shrimp trawling in estuarine waters and within ½ mile of the Atlantic coast, starting December 1, 2025.
❌ This move would shut down sh*****ng in key areas like the Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds, where nearly 75% of NC’s shrimp harvest comes from.
❌ It threatens the livelihoods of local shrimpers, fish houses, tackle shops, and coastal families who’ve worked these waters for generations.
While supporters claim it’s about conservation, this bill ignores the real impact on the people who rely on these fisheries — folks who already operate under strict regulations and care deeply about preserving our coastal waters.
🎣 Trolling and other methods like hook & line depend on strong fisheries, but wiping out an entire industry isn’t the answer.
We stand with North Carolina fishermen. Our heritage, our economy, and our way of life are worth protecting.
