Andy McCormick, President & Chief Sales/Marketing Officer at Legacy Sports International (https://www.legacysports.com) in Reno, NV, importers of the affordable Pointer family of shotguns, is back regaling us with another Nevada wingshooting adventure…
We are off and running with a great start to the 2026 bird season and Barley is a very happy dog. We hunted a remote valley north of Reno outside of the recent burns on a vast stretch of BLM public land which we have been scouting for birds the last couple weeks. The morning was cool for the dove opener -55 degrees just before sun-up. Barley was on high alert with his head on a swivel , snapping and glaring at every quail call, rabbit sighting, cows, magpies, hawks, etc. We did not see a dove until 7:30 and they really did not start flying until 8 am, but boy did the flood gate open after that. It was fast and furious as the Pointer Semi Auto shotgun barked on some quick passing shots from left to right above the sage brush. Barley was rock solid and ready to get in the game with the first pair dumped "Dead Bird " and he was off an running to the marked birds and quickly retrieving , dropping and then back down in the ready position for the next task...tail wagging the whole time .. so worth the trip just to see him so happy and getting it done in his element. By 9 am we had harvested a 15 bird Nevada Paloma Limit and were packed up and headed back south towards Reno. Going to be a great season with this absolutely unbelievable drive of this almost 9 year old dog!
