Taylor
Pilates Biography

I have always been interested in aerobic fitness and exercise (including running and dance aerobics) but it wasn’t until after attending my first Mat Pilates class that I found a way to strengthen my core and stretch my entire body. I became intrigued and after the first month, I loved the way my body felt and it moved differently. It soon became apparent that I had to a

ttend instructor training, so after researching I found an excellent studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the PhysicalMind Institute utilizing the Method® Pilates. This certification provided me with safe options and alternatives in Mat, Advanced Mat, and Standing Pilates, and detailed instruction that has served as an excellent training base since 2003. After this intense 40-hour training, I discovered how challenging mat Pilates truly is! I love to see my students recognize the movement of their bodies in space, discover how capable they truly are, and I enjoy being part of the experience that challenges both their bodies and minds. I emphasize the breath as it is so important in Pilates as it helps us focus on our bodies, how we feel, and how to become stronger with this concentration. I feel one of the most amazing things is seeing the smile of satisfaction on a student’s face while helping to guide them through their journey of movement, form, and strength. I like to keep the classes moving within a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Pilates Certification/Work History:
•Certified in 2002-2003 through the PhysicalMind Institute utilizing the Method® Pilates.
•Instructing classes since 2003 at Gold’s Gym Hershey, PA and LA Fitness Harrisburg/Camp Hill PA, MVP Brownwood The Villages Fl, and The Villages Recreation Centers, and various smaller facilities over the years. Zumba:
Certified in 2008 and then again in 2016. I am also certified to teach Zumba toning. I maintain my Zumba instructor certification which provides me with music, choreography, and additional teaching resources to ensure that I design and deliver safe and effective fitness classes for all of my students and their varied fitness levels. AFAA Group Fitness Instructor Certification: Maintains her certification through Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) which provides a variety of resources to assist her in motivating people to believe in themselves, provide alternatives to traditional Pilates exercise, and help her students move toward healthier and happier lives.

I moved to The Villages in April 2016. In Oct 2016 I started my first volunteer fitness class (Pilates) here in The Villages. I was so excited to bring my knowledge of Pilates and zest for Zumba here. Over the years I have had a lot of Villages' residents and guests come into my classes. Many of them continue to work out in my classes today. So many are here for a week, a month, for the high season, and many full time residents. Thanks to you all for supporting me. Without you, I wouldn't be there!

I now teach three Pilates classes a week, plus two Zumba classes:

Monday, 11am. Zumba Toning, Eisenhower Regional Recreation Center
Wednesday, 830am Beginner Pilates, Burnsed RC
Wednesday, 930am Intermediate Pilates, Burnsed RC
Friday, 830am, Beginner Pilates +, Eisenhower RRC, except 3rd Friday
Saturday, 9am, Zumba, Hibiscus RC, next to Cane Garden

Stay Healthy everyone. See you in class.

Tips for Managing Blood Pressure

Move Your Body. “Regular physical activity, including both aerobic exercise and resistance training, maintaining a healthy weight and limiting alcohol all play major roles in lowering blood pressure,” Cardiologist Alan Rozanski, M.D. says.

Watch Your Sodium Intake. The American Heart Association suggests keeping your sodium intake to less than 2,300 milligrams per day, or closer to 1,500 mg per day if you have hypertension.15 “This is one of the most effective dietary steps, especially when paired with increasing potassium-rich foods,” Rozanski says.
Make Sure You’re Getting Enough Sleep. “Poor sleep quality and chronic stress can activate hormonal pathways that keep blood pressure elevated over time,” Rozanski says.

Follow a heart-healthy diet. A diet that’s rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and other key nutrients and that limits sodium, saturated fats, alcohol, added sugars and processed meats can help manage blood pressure.

ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES.

THE BEST DIET!!

Diets low in carbs and fats but with high-quality carbohydrates, plant-based proteins and fats were associated with about a 15% lower risk of coronary heart disease.

Low-carbohydrate and low-fat diets that are rich in high-quality, plant-based foods and are low in animal products and refined carbohydrates have been linked with a lower risk of heart disease.

Good Food For Heart Health

In a previous article published in 2023, Havard Health released a list of foods to avoid for heart health:

* high-fat dairy products
* fatty meats
* processed meats
* tropical oils and partially
* hydrogenated fats
* processed foods
* foods and beverages with added sugars
* food high in sodium
* alcohol.

This article also went on to share what the best diets one should follow if they want a healthy heart or suffer from heart-related diseases. After looking at 10 popular diets and eating patterns, it was found that the DASH diet and the Mediterranean diet are the top diets for heart health.

DASH diet

The DASH diet is also called the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension eating plan. Studies have found associations between the DASH diet and better heart health, including a lower risk of heart failure and reduced blood pressure. The DASH diet is based on eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and choosing lean proteins, low-fat dairy, beans, nuts, and vegetable oils, while limiting sweets and foods high in saturated fats.

Mediterranean diet

A Mediterranean-style diet is a plant-based diet influenced by countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. It is a popular diet that is touted for its health benefits, including a lower risk of heart disease. It emphasizes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, and legumes and includes low-fat or fat-free dairy products, fish, poultry, certain vegetable oils, and nuts. The diet limits added sugars, sugary beverages, sodium, highly processed foods, refined carbohydrates, saturated fats, and fatty or processed meats.
