Hi all, we had a couple families show up to the gym last night not realizing we were closed due to the weather. It’s important to remind everyone that we have an app that we are trying to get all of our families to download so that we can push notifications about closures, events, etc AND have access to our full curriculum with videos. Also, as a reminder- if you want to make up training from last night, feel free to come to Sport Karate tonight- ages 3-9 (5:30-6:15) and ages 10+ (6:15-7) -or- if you’re an adult stop in for Krav (7-8). Your membership covers all classes!

The WVTG is closing the facility this evening due to the incoming inclement weather that is predicted to be right around our training times- due to this we will also close the gym! Stay safe and ensure you have adequate shelter!

Last Wednesday’s training theme was “Karate- the style of 45/90” where we introduced to beginners, and repped out angular stepping in Karate using the 8 directions of movement (or 16 in JuJutsu).

Tonight we are going to focus on Kata Bunkai (practical application) using the principles of angles and how to interpret Kata movement for combat effectiveness. Kata, loved or hated, contain a wealth of combat movement- not just strikes, but locks, throws, trips, footwork positioning, arm drags, ground positions, and dirty fighting principles. Kata originally was a pneumonic device for learning self defense- and if one really studies the Kata- they can still see the principles today!

Hey gym family, Mr/Mrs Strain’s church is having VBS in two weeks if you’re looking to get your kid into a VBS and don’t know where to go. Ms Stiel will be teaching there as well! We just wanted to put that out there- the church is right around the corner from our gym.
