One thing it seems a lot of parents in our membership don’t understand about the way TSSC is run is how we focus on the process, the joy of the sport and not the results. Read this post about Norway and its superior athletes, it is exactly how we also operate. The results do come. Often American parents just don’t get it and don’t have the patience.

Dear Team,

Here’s a fun one.

Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club serves more than 350 local kids and families, and as a nonprofit, we work hard to keep this program accessible — and far more affordable than the ultra-pricey academy-style ski clubs out there.

That’s where this comes in.

This spring, Rotary’s Hikeathon gives us a chance to raise money for TSSC while doing something we all love anyway: getting out on the trails, soaking up these ridiculously beautiful mountains, and sneaking in a little cross-training while we’re at it.

I’ve created a TSSC Hikeathon Team, and I’d love for you to join me.

The Hikeathon runs May 31 through June 28, and the beauty of it is this: you do it at your own pace, on your own schedule, and on your own favorite trails.

Easy. Healthy. Good for the soul. Great for the kids.

Beliefs: We believe that coaching children in the unique and competitive world of skiing and snowboarding fosters individuality, freedom and growth of character and self esteem. The mountains provide a challenging and inspiring environment. Teamwork promotes camaraderie, a sense of responsibility, community and respect.

Our Mission is to instill and nurture a passion for all snow sports along with developing character, discipline and desire, which encourages young athletes to reach their highest potential.

We provide coaching, training venues and competition opportunities that allow young athletes to achieve their full potential and to embrace the Club's culture of building lifelong confidence, character and integrity while fostering camaraderie and discipline.


Background Statement

TSSC was founded in 1985 when there became a clear need for competitive snowsports coaching available to children in the area. When TSSC was first founded, the kids of Telluride had winter-long Ski PE, now that has been reduced to 5 weeks, but the Ski Club is still here working with kids who have a dream of competing and maybe some day going all the way!! Competitive skiing is not only for those interested in the Olympics, it can also provide scholarships for university and college for kids who excel in winter snowsports.

Membership dues cover only about 25% of cost to run the Club. In an effort to keep our costs from rising for our members and to provide as much scholarship help as we can to those in need, we run a host of different fund raisers annually, won't you please consider...
