First Day of Summer Shootout for our Junior High ππππππ
We didn't win today, but we had FUN and learned so much! That's what it's all about at this level. π
Today, was a teaching moment I didn't expect. Sitting behind our bench, I heard a spectator from the opposing team speaking SO negatively about our junior high girls. The criticism, the inappropriate remarks, the harsh words... *mommy mode activated.*
Yes, as coaches, we know there will always be people talking. That's part of the game.
After the game, we gathered as a team and talked REAL. I reminded these girls of something they need to hear every single day:
**You are NOT what people call you. You are NOT who people say you are.**
We talked about speaking LIFE into each other, maintaining a positive mindset, and lifting one another up; especially when the world around us is tearing down. We bonded over it. We grew over it.
To every parent, coach, and adult in these girls' lives: **Our words matter.** These are young ladies still figuring out who they are. As coaches and mentors, it's our responsibility to speak affirmations, not criticism. Let's build them up, not tear them down. Our role is to protect their hearts and grow their confidence; on and off the court.
Proud of my team for showing heart, resilience, and grace today. We will only get better because there is always room for GROWTH! πππ
