A group of inspired skiers jump-started the Corsair Ski Trails in 1974, and today, it’s people like you, believing in the joy of cross-country skiing, who keep that magic alive. We invite you to assist us with our grassroots ski trail operation through a financial donation.

Why help us out by making a donation today? The Corsair Ski Trails are maintained, operated, and groomed by the Corsair Trail Council. We’re a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer organization funded by donations. We operate these groomed ski trails under a permit through the U.S. Forest Service. There is a high cost to ski trail operation: equipment purchases and maintenance, fuel, insurance, heated log cabin, groomer operator wages, replacing and updating signage, erosion control, and the brushing and removal of fallen trees. Your contribution helps us to continue to provide the first class trail conditions that you enjoy. You can donate by clicking on the Square link or by mailing a check to Corsair Trail Council, P.O. Ski conditions are good and some sunshine and warming temperatures are making it very enjoyable. We haven’t had any significant snowfall since the trails were groomed last week, but the overnight light snow flurries continue to freshen the existing ski tracks. There’s 6” to 8” of snow in the forest, creating a great escape into nature.

Skiing conditions are very good after four inches of new snow blanketed the trails yesterday. Groomers Dan and Karl put in a long day today, operating two machines to get the trails in top shape. They rolled, packed and set tracks at the Silver Valley, Corsair and Wright’s Lake trail sections. It’s time for some outdoor fun!

The Silver Valley trails were rolled and packed today. There’s an average base depth of five inches, including a sub-surface of ice and hard crust. Ski conditions will vary “fair to good”. The snow is not deep enough to set tracks. For safety reasons, we won’t be grooming the Corsair and Wright’s Lake sections due to the icy hills. History: on January 9th, the temperature approached 50 degrees and we had two days of rain. Unfortunately, we’ve been in a snow drought and only received a few light snow showers since. We really need a good snowfall to be able to have nice track-set trail conditions. We’ll be sure to post on this site as soon as that happens.

Wear your badge to show off your support while out on the trails!
Corsair Ski Trail grooming is primarily funded by the annual Grooming Badge Program. Your contribution helps us provide the first class trail conditions that you enjoy. Purchase your grooming badge today to support the cost of ski trail operation: equipment purchases and maintenance, fuel, insurance, heated log cabin, groomer operator wages, replacing and updating signage, erosion control, brushing and removing of fallen trees.
Badges are available at Nordic Sports in East Tawas for a $15.00 minimum donation.
The Corsair Trail Council is a federally tax exempt 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Larger donations, beyond the grooming badge level, are 100% tax deductible.

And a new ski season begins! Corsair Trail Council groomers, Dan and Karl, have been working long hours the past few days. They’ve been packing, grading snow and setting tracks on the Corsair and Silver Valley trail sections. The Wright’s Lake section is packed and graded. Skiers were enjoying the freshly groomed tracks this afternoon, taking advantage of the early season snowfall and good trail conditions,

A BIG SHOUT-OUT of gratitude to this group of hardworking volunteers who donated their time on Saturday to get the trails in shape for winter season. We wouldn’t be able to have groomed ski trails in our community without the dedication of every volunteer who freely gives their time to help others. We really appreciate you!

The Corsair Trail Council is inviting volunteers to assist with a trail clearing work bee on Saturday, November 8th. It's time to get the ski trails in shape for the upcoming winter season. No previous trail work experience is required and all are invited. Trail work will involve removing overhanging limbs, fallen trees and trimming brush. We will meet at the Corsair trailhead log cabin at 10 a.m., break for a hot dog roast early afternoon, and finish work around 4 p.m. Everyone is requested to bring gloves, eye protection, pole saws, chain saws, loping shears, hand saws and other appropriate trimming tools. Four wheel drive vehicles are always needed to travel the trails. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and help with the trail system. For further information please contact [email protected].
