Dear Friends.
It is with a very heavy heart that we share the news that our beloved coach, Harold Sanchez, has passed away. We do not have details on arrangements, but we ask for your prayers and love for Sara, Mila, Jacob and their family. Please post your memories and tributes on our page to remember what a wonderful Coach he was to all of us. Thank you.

Dear HAA Families,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of High Altitude Athletics. We are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish since 2011, but the Covid Pandemic has made reopening too uncertain and the Town of Taos has graciously given us an opportunity relinquish our lease obligations and so, we feel the time has come.

We would sincerely like to thank all of you for your continued support! Over the years, we have produced many State Champions and Regional and Western Qualifiers, given hundreds of thousands of In Kind training and support for our community, hosted summer camps and after school programs, partnered with Special Olympics and Los Angelitos, worked with our highly successful and winning Cheer teams, hosted competitive meets, and even hosted the great Olympian, Nastia Liukin twice! We have been fortunate to have worked with over 2500 children in our community and we hope that we helped teach them not only gymnastics, but good and healthy life skills.

We have been diligent in securing quality equipment and will be donating all of it to Albuquerque Gymnastics School, who has helped us through every step of our journey. Our equipment will live on and help future generations of gymnasts throughout the State of New Mexico.

We would like to thank the Town of Taos for their support over the years and as we exit. They supported our need for a great location, reasonable rent with the opportunity for In Kind services, the opportunity to build our Pit, the rent relief during the pandemic, and the opportunities to build a successful program.

If you still have personal items in the gym area or lockers, we will be cleaning them out and will have in a sealed bag for you to pick up. Please stay tuned for additional communication with dates and times.

Again, many thanks for the last 9 years and all of the memories made with your families. We wish you only the best!

Sincerely,
The Board of Directors of High Altitude Athletics
Debbie Friday Jagers, Chuck Landgraf, Gina Cerruto, Karina Gersten, Patricia Alaniz, Kurt Edelbrock, Shonda Kirschbaum, Dov Amdour, Angelica Robinson Backer

Dear HAA Families,
With these challenging times, we wanted to share our current plans for the next couple of months at High Altitude Athletics.
HAA has always followed the local schools schedule for closures. With this being said, schools are not planning on reopening for this school year and will only offer online instruction. We are not planning on reopening for regular classes until June 1st. We are, however, looking at a number of programs for recreation and exercise once recreational programs are allowed to reopen, as per our Governor. These will be “classes and clinics” and will be communicated via email and text. We are also looking at offering a clinic to “interview” potential coaches to join our program this summer and beyond, but more information will be provided as soon as we can.
Because we will not be offering classes, we will not be billing for April or May tuition. We have had a number of families offer to continue their financial support during these challenging times, which we greatly appreciate. If you are so inclined, please make a “donation” to HAA and we will generate a tax deductible donation letter for your generosity. We are in the process of filing for small business assistance under the CARES Act, and we will keep you posted on our progress. We are reviewing all possible options for making up classes for March and will keep you posted as well.
Unfortunately, the timing of this pandemic interrupted our plans to recognize and thank Toni for her commitment to our program this year. She will not be returning to HAA, but we will be pursuing her next adventure. Please join us in thanking her and we hope to have a send-off party once we reopen, and based on her availability. Toni made a critical contribution to our program this year and we are so grateful for her commitment to our students and teams.
The safety and health of our students and families has always been our primary focus and we hope you are staying home and following all of the recommendations. HAA is being completely sanitized and will be clean and ready to go!
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
The Board of Directors and Professional Team of HAA
