Train Smart. Train Mad.
After being a 3-sport athlete my entire high school career, I knew I wanted to enter into some sort of health oriented field. I started my college career at PSU summer 2009. Even though I was an athlete, I felt awkward walking into the gym on campus and using machines. I was used to being told by a coach what to do. I discovered group fitness classes. I found that I really enjoyed the music, weight lifting and style of training. After taking classes that summer, I knew I wanted to be the girl in front of the class leading others through fitness.
Penn State Fitness requires students to partake in a year-long (32 weeks) course in order to be selected as a group fitness instructor. With rigorous training, it helped prepare me to teach many types of classes. I taught indoor cycling, kick boxing aerobic, total muscle conditioning, boot camp, butts and guts and ab classes at the University Park Campus for 3 years. I graduated May 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Nutritional Sciences.
After graduation, I moved back home (Stroudsburg, PA) and worked at 5 different gyms simultaneously for a little over a year. Each one of them taught me something new. After that, I became the Group Fitness Manager at Retro Fitness in Stroudsburg for 2 years. I stepped down from that position and worked at a weight lifting facility for athletes that are in high school and middle school for 6 months. I was also the assistant coach my high school alma mater, Pocono Mountain East for two seasons. I finally took the leap of faith and opened my own women’s fitness center on April 2, 2018. My dream has always been to run my own gym.
