This month we are featuring FGF athlete Joanne Beck, here is Joanne’s story:
1. Before you started with FGF, what is or
was your background in fitness?
Before I started at FGF I was at other gyms. I had only really started exercising in 2016 when I quit smoking. I started at Retro fitness just fooling around until I saw one of the ladies from church doing a bootcamp and decided I could do that. That was the start of all my exercising.
2. What or who originally prompted you to seek out FGF?
I went to FGF because of the trainers. I had worked out with them at another gym and liked the way they watched and corrected you when you did something wrong. When they moved, I moved.
3. What was your main goal when you started at FGF?
My main goal at the start of FGF was to be trained for age group Spartan in Philly. Also to just stay in shape.
4. What are you most proud of achieving since you started at FGF?
Since starting FGF though I am most proud of running age group in Philly, and I can finally do a handstand (of course against the wall) on my own.
5. With everything you have accomplished, has your view of yourself changed?
For the most part, my view of myself has changed. I know that I am strong and accomplish all that I put my mind to. But….. I still doubt myself in almost everything I do.
6. What do you like best about working with us here at FGF?
I like the people at the gym and the commerodity. I like being pushed by Joelle even though I always have to say I can not do it. I LOVE the trainers.
7. What would you say to anyone who might be dealing with any of the similar struggles you have dealt with?
I would say just keep moving. It is so easy to just want to stay home and think you are too old or not strong enough. I started my journey at 56 and have accomplished things I never thought were possible. It is never too late.
8. Do your have any special moments or memories at FGF?
My special moments at FGF are that I loved doing the Spartan Beast together. I also love our painting nights. Ohhh, you mean at the gym? My special moments are knowing that I can complete each workout and not die.
9. What is your favorite movement?
My favorite movement is swinging from the rings and wall ball situps.
