Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day! Firecrackers NJ 18U outfielder, Alyssa Castera, was recognized by her school, Keansburg HS, as an outstanding woman athlete! She was presented this award at Seton Hall University on Sunday. She is a 3 sport varsity athlete 🏃🏽‍♀️🏀⚾️ We are lucky enough to have her with us year round! Congrats, Alyssa!

“Every single time they step in the box, it doesn’t matter the count or the situation they try to hit a home-run.”

So much insight from one of the best hitting programs in the country. So incredibly rare in softball!

The word is out about sabermetrics, analytics and how to maximize every player’s value. It’s about squeezing every bit of production out of everyone in the line-up.

The good ole’ batting average is no longer the only measure of success. OPS (On-Base Plus Slugging) has proven to be far more valuable.

Singles are better than outs. Doubles are better than singles. Triples are better than doubles and a home-run is the best outcome in any at bat. Purposely hitting ground balls, bunting and other ways of purposely giving the other team your precious outs does not help you score more runs and does not help players reach their full potential.

Fall ball is over. Now is definitely the time to work on mechanics, your movements and develop some better characteristics in your swing. However, if you want to ensure transfer of your training you better make sure you spend adequate time challenging your swing with velocity and change of speeds.
