Turns out the best baseball coaches don’t act like drill sergeants.

They make kids feel confident, capable, and excited to get better.

That’s the job. Not just teaching swings and grips, building kids who actually want to show up.

Casting kills bat speed.

If your arms lengthen and get around the ball, you’re not strong enough to hold your angle yet.

Fix: tuck a small ball in the bicep/forearm and swing without losing that shape. Falls behind you? Still casting. Stays connected through the zone? That’s the fix.

Flat ground work daily. Intensity down, sequencing up, stay directional.

How do I keep my players engaged in practice?”

Make it competitive. That’s it.

Kids don’t lose focus because they’re lazy. They lose focus because the drill doesn’t matter. Give them a reason to care and watch what happens.

Last man standing gets ice cream. Losing team runs a lap. Winner picks the next drill. Doesn’t matter what the stakes are, it matters that there ARE stakes.

Competition is the engagement.
