Growth Plate Fractures: The Injury You Can’t Ignore
Young baseball and softball athletes are still growing, which means their growth plates are often weaker than the surrounding ligaments and tendons. Repetitive throwing, pitching, catching, or overuse can lead to growth plate injuries that may impact development if not addressed.
🚨 Warning signs:
• Persistent arm, shoulder, elbow, or wrist pain
• Decreased velocity or performance
• Pain during or after throwing
• Swelling or tenderness around a joint
The good news? Most growth plate injuries are preventable with proper workload management, rest, recovery, and age-appropriate training.
Parents and athletes: pain is information, not something to “push through.”
Train smart. Recover smarter. Protect the future of your game.
