Tama Skatepark Public skatepark and basketball court located on McLellan St. in Tama, IA between 8th and 9th streets. Open to people of all ages, please observe all rules

The Tama Skatepark and basketball court is closed until further notice. This is in response to ongoing unlawful activities and potential danger for citizens.

I hope this can send a clear message to those who use the park for unintended purposes, it will not be tolerated here or any other public space in Tama.

If there are any questions, you are encouraged to call City Hall at 484-3822 or the Tama PD At 484-3223. If you’d like to speak to me directly, you can leave a call back number or try to reach me after 4:00 pm most afternoons.

Any structures not installed by the City cannot be on the grounds of the skatepark, for many reasons, the biggest being a liability and a safety issue.

I collected 13 bottles again this morning. I truly believe they are being left behind by those using the basketball court. I contemplated a couple options including fencing in the basketball court, or taking down the rims, or moving one trash can. Chose to move one can first, please use it and respect the park. Thank you.

Help me out here guys, what can I do? The park is a mess this morning with bottles all over. I know it's not just the "skaters". I'm getting pressure to close the park due to garbage but I don't want to punish you if it's not your fault. Ideas??

I love coming by the skatepark and seeing all the activity going on! Bring on Spring, right?

Couple reminders to keep the park open for everyone:

- all City parks do close at dusk or sundown. I realize this time of year it gets dark early, but we have to remain consistent with all City park areas.

- Please do not litter at the park and if you happen to see other trash there, I'm asking you to please chip in and pick it up. It makes the park cleaner of course but also keeps everyone (the neighbors, the people who use the park, and the City Officials) much happier!

- Lastly, HAVE FUN, be active, be safe, be positive, and be welcoming to everyone who wants to use the park (just be mindful of the rules and what you can and cannot do in different areas).

Members of the local skating community worked for over a decade to build the park, and now that it's open for good, local skaters can't get enough.

Reminder to please pick up trash around the park. I just stopped down there and picked up quite a bit. I realize it may not always be "yours" but it becomes "our" responsibility. Just wanting to keep the park clean for all the activity which goes on there! Have a great weekend!

It was fun seeing Elmer and Victor skating in the parade today to raise awareness for the park as we start to get fundraising underway! Thanks to them and to Clyde and Bonnie Purk for being the vehicle support! Skate on everyone!

Good news! The replacement part for the damaged ramp has finally come in after being back ordered, and should be replaced soon if not this week! Thanks to everyone who continues to make this park a fun and positive place for all ages and abilities! Friendly reminder to make sure trash is picked up and noise is kept to a respectable level. If you have any questions or comments, please ask. If you have any safety issues, always contact the Tama PD. Skate on everyone!

Had a great conversation earlier today with a representative from the Tony Hawk Foundation regarding the skate park, improvements we can make, and possible funding ideas to make dreams a reality. He was very supportive of our particular park!
