Virginia credit unions made their voices heard on Capitol Hill during Hike the Hill!

Advocates had the opportunity to connect with Congressman John McGuire and Congressman Morgan Griffith to discuss priorities that matter to credit unions and the communities they serve.

During Hike the Hill, our credit union advocates also made their way to the Senate side of the Capitol for conversations with senators representing Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Virginia.

Florida credit unions connected with Senator Ashley Moody and Senator Rick Scott, while Georgia credit unions met with Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock. Virginia advocates met with Senator Mark Warner, and Alabama credit unions sat down with Senator Katie Boyd Britt.

Senator Britt shared, “Great to visit with Alabama Credit Union leaders! We discussed the importance of protecting Alabamians from financial fraud and ensuring credit unions can continue serving communities across our state.”

Florida credit unions had a busy day on the Hill during Hike the Hill!

Credit union advocates had the opportunity to meet with Congressman Gus Bilirakis, Rep. Mike Haridopolos, Congressman Randy Fine, Congressman Scott Franklin, Jimmy Patronis, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez, and Congressman Greg Steube to discuss issues important to credit unions and the members they serve.

Congressman Jimmy Patronis shared, “Great to be with Florida Credit Unions to discuss the issues that matter most to Northwest Florida and the hardworking families who call it home.”

Georgia credit unions had a busy day on the Hill yesterday as part of Hike the Hill!

Credit union advocates had the opportunity to meet with Congressman Barry Loudermilk, Congressman Buddy Carter, Congressman Brian Jack, Representative Rich McCormick, Congressman Andrew Clyde, and Representative Mike Collins to discuss issues important to credit unions and the members they serve.

Fun fact: Representative Andrew Clyde is a member of both Navy Federal Credit Union and Robins Financial Credit Union.

It was a day filled with meaningful conversations and opportunities to share the credit union perspective. Thank you to all of the representatives who took the time to meet with our advocates!

We had a great day on the Hill yesterday!

Navy Federal Credit Union, Langley Federal Credit Union, Chartway Credit Union, and Northwest Federal Credit Union met with Congressman Bobby Scott and Congressman Suhas Subramanyam.

VyStar Credit Union and Marine Credit Union met with US Rep Darren Soto.

Family First Credit Union, Faith Connection Federal Credit Union, Georgia United Credit Union, and Associated Credit Union met with Congressman Hank Johnson. Five Star Credit Union, CGR Credit Union, and Combined Employees Credit Union also met with Congressman Sanford Bishop.

The League, alongside credit union leaders from our footprint, met with the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to advocate for Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund resources.

CDFI-certified credit unions play a critical role in expanding access to affordable financial services, mortgages, small business lending, and other resources in underserved communities.

With 46 CDFI-certified credit unions serving more than 4.4 million members across our four states, these resources make a meaningful difference in communities across our footprint.

Day one of Hike the Hill is officially in the books!

Yesterday, we kicked off the conference with a full day of insightful conversations. We started with a legislative briefing led by our Manager of Federal Advocacy, Ibby Dickson, followed by a fireside chat moderated by Chief Advocacy Officer Michelle Roth with Levi Swank, Deputy Director of Litigation at the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.

Ibby also facilitated an engaging congressional staff panel, giving advocates the opportunity to hear directly from those working on Capitol Hill. We wrapped up the day with a conversation with National Credit Union Administration Chairman John Crews.
