I’ve been challenging my runners to different running workouts and strength workouts for a long time So when one of my runners wanted to start a push-up challenge, in addition to the running etc. I was all in!!
It’s a simple challenge: Max push-ups ( with good form ) in 1 minute. Do it 3x per day. Morning, afternoon and evening. Total the scores and compare in a week. Two things to look for: Most reps in one set and most total push-ups.
I am always up for a good strength building challenge, and saw this as a way to combat the idleness that has been afflicting some people with social distancing. I challenged a bunch of my older runners as well, and they have not let me down!
I’ve also asked that they send video, if they want to, so we can all see them getting the work in, and to make sure the form isn’t too bad! 😉
Any of my old athletes and friends, or friends of friends, that want to get a piece of this action - let’s do it!! We just started yesterday so you’re not too late. I’ll just add you to the list, and give you a couple extra days to get started. I’d love to see your videos as well!!

Met Molly Seidel today at the track today. (She is a former NCAA champion, with a 5K PR of 15:15. Currently she is running professionally for Saucony) She stopped by to get in about 2 miles of Floating 200m repeats. - That’s 200m fast with a 200m jog around to the start, then repeat.
She will be racing next at the 2018 USATF Cross Country Championships at Apalachee Regional Park on Saturday February 3, 2018.
We were able to talk for a bit about college and pro running, running mechanics and trying to stay injury free.
I introduced her to my mid-distance runners, Andrew, Haleh and Zach, who had just finished their workout. Several times throughout the season I video my runners in slo-mo to spot check form, stride etc. so while Molly and I were on the topic... she was kind enough to allow me to catch a few of her repeats in slow motion so I could use it as a tool to talk to the runners about distance running mechanics. - Something she still works on with her coach.
Molly was super gracious and very warm to the young runners. I hope she continues to have great success in her career and continues to love the sport.
