🥋 THE NEXT GENERATION OF ALLIANCE

Meet João Seda, one of our Kids Program Assistant Instructors at Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Tallahassee.

João has been on the mats since he was very young. Jiu-Jitsu is not simply something he practices, it is part of his upbringing and his family legacy.

His father, Professor Ney Seda, is a 6th-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and owner / Head Coach of Alliance Coral Springs. Growing up surrounded by that level of experience, discipline, and tradition has given João a strong foundation both as a practitioner and as a young instructor.

Today, we are proud to have João helping guide the next generation at Alliance Tallahassee sharing his knowledge, energy, and passion with our kids.

Great instructors are developed over years. Great legacies are built across generations.

Technique is what you see. Habits are what they keep.

Here is what a kids class actually trains, minute by minute. Following a sequence of instructions all the way through, even the boring middle part. Keeping eyes on the professor while someone else is talking. Standing in a line waiting for a turn that is not coming for another four minutes. Working with a partner whose body they have to take care of.

None of that is a lecture about behavior. It is behavior, practiced with the body, dozens of times a class. That is why it transfers: a habit rehearsed under mild pressure holds up better than a rule a child was told about once at the dinner table.

Parents usually notice it somewhere else first. Homework that gets finished. A morning routine with less negotiation. A calmer answer when a sibling takes something.

Bring your kid to a class and see it in practice. Link in bio.

This is what Jiu-Jitsu is all about. 🥋

Different backgrounds, different ages, different journeys but when we step on the mat, we become one team.

We train hard, challenge each other, laugh together, and help one another grow. The techniques are important, but the friendships, respect, and sense of community are what make the journey truly special.

Great training. Great people. One family.
Alliance Tallahassee — Jiu-Jitsu is better together. 🤝🥋

💪🏼Next session at 5:30pm!

Today is for the people who work hard for what they want, and most of them do it without an audience. Early shifts, long weeks, work that nobody posts about.

The mats reward the exact same thing. Nobody gets good at jiu-jitsu in a burst of motivation. You get good by coming back on the Tuesday you were tired, the week you were sore and the month nothing seemed to click. On our mats, hard work has a simple name: showing up.

That is also why a holiday is a good day to start. The version of you that trains on a random Wednesday in February is built by decisions like the one you make today.

Academy closed for Labor Day. We’ll be back on 9/8.

See you on the mats.

🥋 BEFORE THE SPOTLIGHT, THERE WAS HISTORY.

1993 Novo Leblon, Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.
A purple belt only championship, where I faced Márcio Feitosa of Gracie Barra in the final.

We were part of a generation that trained, competed, taught, and helped build Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu long before it became the worldwide phenomenon it is today.

More than 30 years later, we are still on the mats, teaching and passing this art to the next generation.

The medals fade. The memories remain. The legacy lives forever.

🥋 Honor the past. Teach the present. Build the future.

🥋 BEYOND THE BADGE.

Congratulations to Officer Dustin Palmer on making the smart decision to continue investing in his skills by beginning his Jiu-Jitsu training with us at Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Tallahassee.

Law enforcement officers receive important defensive tactics training at the academy but those skills, like any physical skill, become sharper through consistent practice, repetition, and pressure tested training.

Jiu-Jitsu gives officers an opportunity to continuously develop control, confidence, composure under pressure, and the ability to manage physical confrontations while protecting themselves and others.

Dustin understands something important: graduating from the academy shouldn’t be the end of your training it should be the beginning.

To our law enforcement community: invest in yourself. Keep learning. Keep training. Be better prepared to protect yourself, protect others, and serve your community with confidence.

Welcome to the Alliance family, Officer Palmer. 👊🥋👮‍♂️

Mat Rules #1: the bow.

If you have never trained, this one looks like decoration. It is not. The bow is a boundary marker: it tells your brain that a different space starts here, with different rules of attention and care. Every discipline that asks people to focus under pressure builds a ritual like this, because a repeated cue works faster than willpower.

It also does something practical. You leave the traffic, the inbox and the argument from this morning at the door. Whatever you carried in, the bow is where you set it down.

And bowing to your professor and your training partners says the part that matters most: learning is a two-way street. I respect you and value the constant exchange that makes us better with every training session. In a sport where you trust someone else with your body for an hour, that is not a nice touch. It is the foundation.

This is the first post of a series about the rules of our mats and why each one exists. Save it and follow along.
