Getting Your CCW in California is easier than you think. There are some pretty stupid and dangerous people out there. Don't wait. Message me for process and training.
To get a concealed carry weapon (CCW) permit in Bakersfield, you must apply through the Kern County Sheriff's Office and satisfy all state and local requirements. The process involves completing an online application, passing a background check, and taking a state-mandated training course.
Eligibility requirements
To qualify for a CCW license in California, you must meet the following criteria:
Be at least 21 years old.
Be a resident of Kern County or work in the county.
Possess good moral character.
Own the handgun(s) you wish to list on the permit. All fi****ms must be registered to you with the California Department of Justice.
Not be a "disqualified person" under federal or California law, which includes certain felony and misdemeanor convictions, drug addiction, and specific mental health diagnoses.
Application process
Start your online application. Go to the Kern County Sheriff's Office website and navigate to the Licensing Unit page to find the link for the online application, which is processed through Permitium.
Submit documents. Prepare to upload scanned copies of required documents, including:
A valid California driver's license or ID card with your current address.
Two forms of proof of residency (e.g., utility bills, vehicle registration).
Proof of employment in Kern County, if applicable.
Complete the background check. All applicants will be fingerprinted via Live Scan. For Kern County, Live Scans for CCW permits must be done at the Sheriff's Office and require an appointment.
Complete a 16-hour training course. As required by California Senate Bill 2 (effective January 1, 2024), new CCW applicants must complete a 16-hour training course approved by the Kern County Sheriff's Office. The course includes classroom instruction on fi****ms safety and handling, as well as a live-fire range qualification with each firearm you wish to carry. Do not take this course until instructed to do so by the CCW unit.
Attend an interview. The licensing unit will review your application and conduct an interview to discuss your personal history. You will also provide three character references, one of whom must be a cohabitant if applicable.
Pay fees. You will be required to pay several fees throughout the process, including an initial application fee, Live Scan fees, and the training course fee.
Await approval and pick up. Once your application is approved, you will be notified and can schedule an appointment to pick up your permit at the Kern County Sheriff's Office headquarters.
Other important details
Permit duration: A standard CCW license is valid for two years.
Permitted handguns: The number of handguns you can list on your permit is limited. The Kern County Sheriff's Office currently allows a maximum of six fi****ms on a permit.
Timelines: Be prepared for a lengthy process. The total time from application to permit issuance can take several months, depending on interview availability and background check processing times.

Ammo Sales Background Check Banned by 9th Circuit Court

California's ammunition background check law was recently ruled unconstitutional by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. This decision struck down a law passed by voters in 2016 and implemented in 2019, which required Californians to undergo a background check for each ammunition purchase.
This ruling stemmed from a lawsuit challenging the law, initially filed in 2018 by gun rights advocates, including Olympian Kim Rhode and the California Rifle & Pistol Association. A lower court judge, Roger Benitez, had previously found the law unconstitutional in January 2024, arguing it restricted the right to self-defense by hindering the purchase of ammunition. The Ninth Circuit upheld this lower court ruling.
The Appeals Court's decision highlighted that the law "meaningfully constrains" the right to keep and bear arms and found it inconsistent with the nation's historical tradition of fi****ms regulation, as per the Supreme Court's Bruen decision. The court stated that since fi****ms are inoperable without ammunition, the right to bear arms necessarily includes the right to acquire ammunition.
The California Department of Justice (DOJ) has expressed disappointment with the ruling and is exploring its legal options, which may include seeking a rehearing by a larger panel of Ninth Circuit judges or appealing to the Supreme Court. Governor Gavin Newsom also voiced his disappointment, emphasizing the public's support for the background check requirement.
While the California DOJ's Information Bulletins page does not currently show a specific bulletin regarding this ruling, it's recommended to monitor their website and potentially subscribe to their email updates for the most recent information and any official guidance issued by the Department of Justice.

NO MORE BACKGROUND CHECKS TO PURCHASE AMMO!

A divided federal appeals court on Thursday said California's first-of-its-kind law requiring firearm owners to undergo background checks to buy ammunition is unconstitutional, violating the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
