Tacoma Aikikai A community-centered Aikido dojo empowering youth and adults in the South Puget Sound. She moved from Kyoto, Japan to Tacoma to found Tacoma Aikikai in 2016.

Tacoma Aikikai is dedicated to sharing aikido to empower youth and adults in the South Puget Sound. By offering non-violent conflict resolution through rigorous physical training, aikido can promote peace and equity throughout our community. While embracing a traditional aikido training environment, rooted in the lineage and discipline of Japanese martial traditions, we are committed to cultivatin

g students actively engaged in creating a diverse, inclusive, and mutually supportive society. In addition to classes at the dojo, we welcome opportunities to bring the benefits of aikido to schools and community groups through aikido or auxiliary self-defense, empowerment, and movement classes. Tacoma Aikikai welcomes practitioners of all nationalities, gender identities, sexual orientations, races, faiths, ages, and abilities. Chief instructor, Ea Murphy Sensei, has studied aikido for almost two decades in both the Pacific Northwest and Japan. Tacoma Aikikai is affiliated with the International Aikido Headquarters, Hombu Dojo, through our parent organization Birankai North America, founded by the late T.K. Chiba Shihan.

Correction - no Thursday classes at Tacoma Aikikai, but head out to Seattle Aikikai and Portland Aikikai for two great weekends of training!

Registration is Open! We are thrilled to be co-hosting Chris Mulligan Sensei July 25-26 @ Seattle Aikikai and August 1-2 .

July 25 - 26, Seattle, Bokken
August 1 - 2, Portland, Jo

The schedule will be the same both weekends:
Saturday 11:00 - 12:30, 15:00 - 17:00
Sunday 10:00 - 12:00

Seattle Aikikai is bringing Kayla Feder to the Northwest! Lucky us, Saturday and Sunday training will be held at Tacoma Aikikai Dojo. Come out and share a great weekend of training and friendship!

Deep thanks to Eugene Aikikai for hosting a wonderful seminar with George Lyons Sensei, Patti Sensei, and Bucks County Aikido , which brought an amazing community of aikidoka together for a fiery and joyous training. It was heartwarming to train again with dear friends and receive so much to chew on from George Sensei and Patti Sensei's teaching. Hope to see you all again before too long! 🙏

A huge congratulations and deep thanks to Etsuji Horii Shihan, Yoshiko Horii Sensei, and all of Aioikai Aikido Kobe-Sanda Dojo for their 30th anniversary celebration. Thank you for the decades of inspiration, support, and teaching. It was a memorable visit to Japan, and a wonderful seminar weekend. We were grateful to Horii Shihan for bringing Aikidoka together from all over the world to meet, train, and celebrate, and to Doshu, Horii Shihan, Yoshiko Sensei, and Okamoto Sensei for their rich teaching during the event. We also had a great time sharing kids class with the Aioikai Aikido Kobe-Sanda Dojo Instructor team😊 We look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

A huge thank you to Flynn Sensei for bringing us all together again for a deep and memorable seminar weekend. Thank you to all the aikidoka and teachers who shared the mat and a fiery training, despite the rain, snow, and hail ❄️💧🔥 We are grateful and inspired by the spirit and energy of Aikido on the West Coast!!!
