It’s Giving Tuesday and I’ve got a hot take and a discount for you!

Let’s face it, many of us who have built a life steeped in outdoor recreation, get far more out of nature than we ever give. Sure, there is the “I pick up trash and practice leave no trace,” baseline level of existing outside, but how many of us actually put our money, time, and talents where our Instagram photos are?

Are you a member of your favorite trail organizations? Have you volunteered with a trail club this year? Have you submitted a comment on pending legislation or called your representatives about environmental issues? Have you donated money to the very organizations that are responsible for ensuring that long-distance hiking is even possible, let alone amazing.

IYKYK… and if you don’t know, this is what a whole lotta Bead by Bead on the Appalachian Trail necklaces looks like on the kitchen table.

These necklaces are maps of the , where each bead represents roughly 25 trail miles, and the different colors represent the 14 states the trail passes through. They come with a mileage key and a movable tracking ring hikers can use to track their progress.

As I tie the knots and slip on the tracking rings, I wonder who will wear each one. Will they be a seasoned thru hiker setting off on yet another long-distance hike? Or maybe a newbie who is planning ahead for 2028? Perhaps a mom at home reluctantly supporting their kid’s big dream to walk 2,000 miles and wanting them to still feel close. Or maybe a day hiker headed to a wedding that needs a stylish excuse to turn any dull conversation to their favorite subject - hiking.

Whoever ends up with these, I hope they feel the love that goes into making them!

Who is going to Pinhoti Fest this weekend in Sylacauga, Alabama?!

You? Great!! 😀

Me? No. 😕

But… The First Family of Fun and Functional Gear (aka Jolly, Pitch, and Powerslide of ) will be selling my Bead by Bead on the Pinhoti Trail necklace at their booth. 🎉😁🤩

I’m so thankful for their support of my business and making sure that even if I can’t be there, attendees will still have the opportunity to snag a Pinhoti necklace!

They will also have Pinhoti stickers from 👏

Last year, it was Hurricane Helene that kept me away from , but this year it’s a joyful occasion. I will be officiating a wedding this weekend! A very fancy wedding that prompted me to get an actual haircut instead of just whacking of the end of my braid! This will be my sixth wedding and I am always honored to help friends and family tie the knot. ❤️

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great time at Pinhoti Fest… 2026 will be my year!! If you stop by the Jolly Gear booth, give them a high five and tell them how cool it is that they support other small businesses! And it should be noted that their Pinhoti shirt and my Pinhoti necklace look really good together! 😍

What is this thing I hear about the importance of a good unboxing experience and consistent branding? 😬 I’d rather be known for reusing perfectly good packaging materials (that my friends and family save for me and you can too), than creating a bunch of new trash with perfectly on-brand boxes, tissue paper, and such. Though clearly I am a little insecure about it so I need a sticker to make it seem less weird! ☺️

I don’t mind the company until one gets stuck in my hair! Luckily their sting isn’t that painful and dissipates quickly. Between the swallows, the sweat bees, and the cows across the road, there’s always a bit of company on the front porch, even if the is now closed for the season.

Whoever posted about my new John Muir Trail necklace online, thank you! Somehow a bunch of you found the hidden placeholder listing on my website and boldly placed orders from a listing that had no pictures and no description! It was quite the surprise to see order after order come in for something that’s wasn’t even on my site yet. 🥰 I’m absolutely thrilled that folks are so excited about the JMT necklace… even if I had to stay up late beading!! ❤️

⛈️Wouldn’t be Trail Days without a little rain (and thunder and lightning and high winds)! Hope everyone weathered the storm ok. Forecast for today looks great!🌞

The Tucson airport stole my heart. There was wonderful art on every single surface, and then there were these darling travelers tucked away under a staircase. Just patiently waiting for their flights, reading Carrot Soup for the Soul, eating Prikly’s, and carrying luggage stuffed with sticks. What a delight. Can’t wait to visit them again on the way to CDT Days 2026!
