As of this Friday, 1/13/17, The Pirates Bait Pen will be off the water and not returning. I have had a great time with this adventure and have met many wonderful people but due to the rise in costs from every angle I will be taking the Pirate off the water. Thank you to all those I have met, sold to and enjoyed talking fishing. If the state ever goes back to the licensing costs when I started, I may reconsider. But at this time it is no longer a positive financial business model and I have given up all my licenses in this playground.

The Pirate's Bait Pen will find dockage this weekend at Morehead City docks in support of the MAD (Military Appreciation Day) event on Saturday. This is the 8th MAD event at Morehead and is setting itself up to being the biggest in number of troops, family members and captains donating their time, boats, fuel to show these heroes a great day on the water. I am honored to be the live bait supplier for the inshore guys, as well as taking my BAU post on the docks working them for the day. Weather is looking excellent for this "Have to be at" event every year.

The plan for Pirate's Bait Pen to be next on the water is this Saturday, 18 May, 2013. At the moment I am targeting to have mud minnows, finger mullet and possibly my first round of fiddler crabs for you sheephead and black drum folks. Outside chance I may also carry some pinfish, TBD. See everyone out there in Swansboro, so far weather looks like it will be chamber of commerce...

Also, I will be supplying live bait for the upcoming 1 June MAD event in Morehead. I will tie up at the Morehead City docks right where all our heroes will be catching their rides for the day. I also work the docks for this event. Here is a posting I placed on the MAD and Hull Truth fishing sites. Please let me know if you see this announcement here and would have bait needs that day so I can plan for it.

On Saturday, 1 June 2013, the MAD organization will be honoring our Military Heroes and families at
the 8th annual Morehead City MAD event. I am personally honored in being able to offer live bait while
giving back to MAD. I will have the Pirates Bait Pen, a 20’ pontoon easily recognized, tied off at the
Morehead City docks and full of your inshore bait needs. I am a newly formed small business, long time
dock worker for MAD, and I am honored to have this opportunity for this event.

Seeing at the moment my bait availability is focused on the inshore fishermen and women, I will be
offering mud minnows, finger mullet and fiddler crabs. I will also have fresh cut bait for those who
may desire variety to offer the catch, and there is a good chance I may also be able to get pinfish if the
demand is sufficient.

What would help me to serve all who would desire this offering is an email in advance so I can ensure
enough availability for all those desiring. I would ask any captain wishing to acquire any of my bait
offering to please send me an email to [email protected]. Please state the kind of bait desired
and amount. I will do everything in my power to assure each request is accommodated for, and my main
bait guy tells me I can make this with as close to 100% guarantee as humanly possible. For anyone else
who does not make such request, it will be a first come first served basis till my bait is gone.

I have committed 50% of the proceeds to MAD, I am very proud and glad to give back to this
organization a small fraction of what they have given me via being a volunteer. I will also be working the
docks so make sure to see me for your bait needs, or if you have none say Hey anyway as I help you and
your Heroes cast away on this very special day of recognition.

Well, down for a second weekend of seeking out those who may need and want live bait in the Swansboro area only to be welcomed to 20-30 mph wind. Consistent, wind. AAARRRGGGG... Promise for tomorrow is higher than today, and I understand from my bait guy Tim (Pierman) it did not lay down overnight and greeted him this a.m. to same... Coming across the Swansboro bridges earlier saw white caps on the White Oak, 2 trucks with trailers at the wildlife ramp, with not a boat in sight in the basin where 10-12 were last weekend after Va. mullet. Had a plan, executed it by going to beach and exploring and snatching sand fleas, guess they will be my personal bait tomorrow if all else fails, cause I will fish if I am the lone ranger. No one can fight Momma Nature, just love her and never say a bad word about her or if you do maybe you've seen the last decent day for awhile.
