The 4th Annual NCK Sutton In-House Tournament was a great success! Everyone worked incredibly hard to prepare for their performances, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Congratulations to everyone who medaled and, to those who didn’t or didn’t place as highly as they wanted, take this experience as a learning opportunity, grow from it, and come back stronger next year! 🥋

A special congratulations goes out to the recipients of this year’s special awards:

➡️ Maverick earned the Courage award for stepping in front of the judges, competing against teens AND adults, and performing exceptionally well, despite being justifiably nervous!

➡️ Rory was awarded the Improvement medal for demonstrating incredible growth over the last year and performing at a level far beyond what he was able a short time ago!

➡️ Sensei Katie received the Selflessness award for her generous contributions of time and expertise to the dojo and our community!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the event. Without dedicated competitors, supportive family members, and invested coaches and judges, this tournament wouldn’t exist. I hope everyone had a great time and I can’t wait for the next one!! ✅🙌

Congratulations to two groups of testers from the last several weeks. The first group includes three Little Dragons, who have been showing up, working hard, and learning how to be martial artists (and having fun doing it!) - all were promoted to new, well-earned ranks! The second group lies near the other end of the under-rank spectrum. Five of our senior students tested for advanced ranks, all earning brown belts of the 3rd or 2nd degree. This is a huge step. The test was harder and longer than any they’ve experienced before. They all know a huge volume of techniques and forms. All of this requires a huge amount of preparation, both physically and mentally, and demonstrates immense personal growth made by all. Each of these newly promoted brown belts is one step closer to earning their black belts; each also has plenty of work to do to reach that goal. Keep learning, keep grinding, and keep your eyes on your goals! Well done to all of you!! 🙌

Today, four students from NCK Sutton headed out to Springfield to compete in the Western Mass Open Karate Championships. All four performed incredibly well and represented our school at the highest level. Great job, Kiersten, Kelli, Frank, and Emily! Revel in your new hardware, learn from mistakes and accomplishments, and keep kicking butt!! Special thanks to Sifu Matt for coaching, offering words of encouragement, and representing NCK Sutton as a true leader!

Wow - what an event! NCK Sutton was well represented at the Quebec Open in Canada this weekend by our newly crowned and returning international champions, Tessa and Kiersten!!! Both beat out some serious competition to take home a pair of 1sts each, and Tessa threw in a 2nd for good measure. More importantly, both competitors performed at the top of their game and demonstrated what incredibly hard work and commitment can do! And a huge thank you to Sifu Matt for helping coach these amazing competitors!! 🥋

A huge thank you goes out to Master Clermont Poulin and Studio Unis for welcoming us in Quebec, putting on an incredibly well-run tournament, and organizing a truly inspiring super show. Thanks also to Kyoshi Ryan Chamberland for teaching an excellent seminar and giving us a new way to approach our techniques! I couldn’t be happier with the experience this weekend, both for myself and our students - now to prepare for next year!

Congratulations to all of our competitors who participated in the Ocean State Grand Nationals in Warwick, RI a few weeks ago! Everyone put in serious work and showed great courage stepping in from of a huge crowd and some tough judges. While some were hoping for different results, everyone should be proud of their efforts and set their eyes on the next one! Great job by all!! 👏

I am so proud of our amazing students for their performances yesterday at the Krane Karate Tournament in Warwick, RI. It takes great courage to step onto such a big stage, stand in front of hundreds of people, and show everyone what you’ve got - and each and every competitor did an incredible job.
