Dear Land O' Lakes Softball League Family,

This is difficult to write. After countless conversations and careful consideration, Commissioner Jim Pease and I have made the difficult decision to pause softball league operations for 2026.

Right now, we have only two confirmed teams and one potential team for the upcoming season. Despite our best efforts, meeting with more than a dozen potential franchise locations and extending our deadlines three times, we haven't been able to build the foundation we need to give you the quality season you deserve.

I want you to know how much this hurts. When we launched this league, the energy and enthusiasm were incredible. Locations were reaching out asking to join, players were excited, and we truly believed we had something special. We thought we had the right leadership group to adapt and grow together. But somewhere along the way, we struggled with player retention and, critically, finding dedicated people to run teams at the level this league deserves.

This pause is not the end...it's a reset. Over the next year, Jim and I will be working to rebuild with a clear vision for long term sustainability. We'll begin recruiting new teams and players this spring, and we'll make a final decision about the 2027 season by August 1st, 2026.

To our players in Lake Mills, Monches, and Sussex: please stay connected to Land O' Lakes baseball. Attend games, support the teams, and stay part of this community. When you're back at college or connecting with your former club teammates this spring, we hope you'll help spread the word about what we're building.

Thank you for believing in this league and for your love of the game. Your dedication means everything to us, and we're committed to creating something worthy of that dedication.

And that is a wrap on the 2025 season. These ladies played with passion, persistent, attitude, and heart. They never gave up in any game. They truely represented what Land O’ Lakes Softball should be, an opportunity to play for the love of the game, team and community. Thank you to all of the fans who came out to support them, the parents who stepped in to help when I wasn’t able to make the games, to the Cardinals Board who supported the squad throughout the season, and finally to the ladies themselves. You did the hard work, put in the effort, gave up your Sunday’s to play, not because someone was paying a club or you were looking to get scouted but because you wanted the outlet, you wanted to play the game your way. I can’t thank you enough for letting me be a part of your summer.

We have our home opener this Sunday (15-JUN-25) against South Milwaukee. First pitch at 11:00 am on the diamond behind the hardball diamond at Village Park. Come out and support the ladies as they continue the 2025 season campaign. We have full concessions.

Mercedez Hernandez’s Big Day Propels Sussex Cardinals (Softball) Past Monches Irish (Softball)

Mercedez Hernandez drove in four runs on two hits to lead Sussex Cardinals (Softball) past Monches Irish (Softball) 10-2 on Sunday at Monches- Recreation Park. Hernandez singled in the second inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring two.

Sussex Cardinals (Softball) got on the board in the top of the second inning after Jennalyn Mallmann scored after tagging up, Hernandez singled, scoring two runs, and Nicole Ghelfi singled, scoring two runs.

Sussex Cardinals (Softball) scored five runs on six hits in the top of the third inning. Anna Prusinski drew a walk, scoring one run, Olivia Plewa singled, scoring one run, Hernandez singled, scoring two runs, and Ghelfi singled, scoring one run.

Plewa started the game for Sussex Cardinals (Softball). The starter surrendered nine hits and two runs over five innings, striking out one and walking none.

Sussex Cardinals (Softball) tallied 15 hits in the game. Ghelfi went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Sussex Cardinals (Softball) in hits. Prusinski, Megan Schultz, and Alyssa Mallmann each collected multiple hits for Sussex Cardinals (Softball). Sussex Cardinals (Softball) were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.

Game #2 Recap:

Sussex Cardinals (Softball) were triumphant over Monches Irish (Softball) 5-3 on Sunday at Monches- Recreation Park.

Sussex Cardinals (Softball) were the first to get on the board in the first when Joette Kassa doubled, scoring one run.

Sussex Cardinals (Softball) took the lead in the top of the second. Olivia Plewa singled, scoring one run, to give Sussex Cardinals (Softball) the upper hand, 2-1.

Sussex Cardinals (Softball) committed an error, which helped Monches Irish (Softball) tie the game at two in the bottom of the third.

A double by Megan Schultz gave Sussex Cardinals (Softball) the lead, 3-2, in the top of the fourth.

Jennalyn Mallmann stepped in the circle first for Sussex Cardinals (Softball). The starter gave up eight hits and three runs (two earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking none.

Sussex Cardinals (Softball) tallied 16 hits in the game. Mercedez Hernandez led Sussex Cardinals (Softball) with two runs batted in. Hernandez went 3-for-3 on the day. Nicole Ghelfi went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Sussex Cardinals (Softball) in hits. Kassa and AJ Klostermann each collected multiple hits for Sussex Cardinals (Softball). Sussex Cardinals (Softball) turned one double play in the game.
